Bugs: Fix them or work with them?

I really want Flight Simulator 2020 to ACCURATELY represent ACTUAL flight mechanics.

HOWEVER I do not care if Flight Simulator is “buggy”.

Hello, and welcome to this thread, where I intrigue you to enjoy some bugs as … in-flight problems needing solutions.

I think we can all agree that if a windsheer hits your plane, and in real life it will do something to your plane, but in the simulator it doesn’t do anything or doesn’t respond realistically, then this is a bug that needs fixing.

But, next time your Autopilot goes on the fritz? Or (as discussing about the 747 Mach problems)…perhaps role-play it? Maybe it’s your onboard computer malfunctioning, or a lightning strike. And try and solve it?

I have worked out a solution for the 747’s in-flight Mach speed bug, treating it as a normal malfunction of the aircraft’s equipment, and managing it in-flight.

And I think this is a very fun way to play.

What other bugs have YOU found that aren’t real life errors but are instead problems that can be treated as mechanical failures/computer corruptions, etc?

As I said in another thread: I consider these problems a mean stumpbling block the instructor put in the way to my pilot’s license.

You mean like the bug where your flight plan from the World Menu doesn’t populate into the on-board computer?

I’ve taken off like that quite a few times to discover it only when switching on AP. Now I know if I want to avoid the hassle, that’s the first thing I check for accuracy when loading the Sim.

Oops…looks like your flight plan entry got corrupted. Re-enter it

That hasn’t happend to me personally but basically yes, exactly like that.

I like to believe that data transfers can get corrupted in real life too.

Also, checking the flightplan for discontinuities and problems is part of a regular preparation checklist.

Bugs are inavoidable in the next year or 2 … the SDK is nof finished, they have to make big changes in the game engine, like DX12 and many more, and with each new feature, comes a new bunch of bugs …

…so we might aswell try to live with it.

Exactly, actually 320 Sim Pilot on YouTube talks about the A320’s backup flight plan IN CASE of corruption. So it probably happens more frequently than not

SEC-F-PLN will be implemented via the A32nx mod as far as I know.

Yes, we have only 2 choices, live with it or Cryostasis :joy:

It’s hard to work with bugs when out of the blue the POV screws up, points through the co-pilots headrest and then the game CTDs, all when setting up final approach.

Immensely frustrating, up to patch 3 the bugs I was experiencing were at least manageable and the game was playable.

Since patch 3 my flying time has dropped of dramatically to a 3-4 hours in the week. CTDs, G3000 freezes, AP bugs and incessant lightning are all taking their toll.

Here’s hoping Patch 4 actually does patch and doesn’t introduce any more catastrophic bugs.

Tangential to a secondary flight plan, I was thinking about the redundancy in autopilots.

The 747 has 3 computers, so as far as I’m aware, each are their own standalone computers (much like 3 gameboys with probably less computing power haha).

So my reasoning (haven’t read about it) is the Left-Center-Right APs are all independent of each other.

Now, what interests me somewhat, is the game itself doesn’t simulate the three redundant Autopilots, if it did then that would be impressive.

Instead, it probably simulates only ONE Autopilot. This is problematic in simulating failure of just ONE computer. And a real-program-bug example is sometimes the AP goes on the fritz and I have no way of recovering by simply switching from Left AP to Center AP.

It’d be nice to build that INTO the game…since te AP itself is buggy most likely due to actual data corruption in memory during the program running on Windows.

Reporting bugs is a good thing.

Reporting bugs and complaining about them at the same time never helped anyone aside from the poster.
