Buildings problem?

I really started to notice how large chunks of buildings just pop in when flying in the larger cities like NYC. I notice this happens with objects maybe more than 10-13 miles ahead… In smaller towns it happens too but it’s less noticeable… I even have ‘objects level of detail’ turned up all the way to counter this problem but it doesn’t change the way objects and textures pop in… Good example is flying from JFK airport towards time square… When looking past time square and past the water you wouldn’t even know there’s buildings there until huge chunks of buildings start appearing everywhere.
Where this makes flying hard (visually, without gps) is trying to identify where towns and stuff are … Do use think adobo will be looking at performance tweaks here . I did read recently that this Sim is in test phase.

Sounds like your PC just can’t load in objects quick enough in very high settings. Turning a few things down will likely improve that issue.

Other things to try are increasing cache size and running disk cleanup and defrag.

Or, it could be that NYC (and pretty much every other metro area I have checked) is a mess.

No matter what settings I set, NYC looks like a bombed out mess. Most of the buildings are reduced to primitive geometric shapes, like triangular cones like stalagmites.

It looks this way beyond what I call the “high detail bubble”) HDB. In any 3d game or sim, the scene is almost always broken down into areas of varying detail, with a bubble around the camera viewpoint and things in that bubble are rendered at high detail. Then beyond that bubble, less detail and even less the farther out you go.

This works out well because in real life, our eyes focus on near things and do not pick up great level of detail very far out. Then at altitude there is haze and atmospheric distortions. These natural things, plus tricks 3D engines employ, should make this scheme look not quite so obvious.

But in MSFS2020 it looks like they have made no attempt to conceal this. Personally, I would not call this release quality – even from a pure scenery perspective. The sim is fine in VFR anywhere but a metro city.

New York City will cause issues on almost everyone’s computer, there’s just so much to load for it. You might need to tweak the settings for the game. What are your PC specs?

New York City also, in my experience, benefits greatly from manual cache. By doing so, you will have it already loaded.
