Bush navigation

I’m having issues in following and understandig the navlog advice. For example Nevada Leg 10, navlog says something like ‘to the north of the airfield is a parallel road, branching off and taking you NW.’
I could absolutely not find the correct road, so checked a Youtube tutorial. The correct way was to the SW, then following a road that leads W.

Further on in that same leg you follow a river and navlog mentions to fly North when the river starts to flow West. Again I got lost when I did exactly that. Checked a Youtube tutorial - the correct way was NOT to turn north but keep following the river when it’s heading West.

Are the navlog instructions simply broken or am I simply missing something here? Even after seeing the correct route on Youtube some navlog instructions like the ones mentioned above don’t make sense to me at all.

Really nobody is having issues with this? Or am I the only one doing these bush missions? I got to leg 19, I can’t find the destination even when watching videos on Youtube. The navlog instructions don’t make any sense at all.

It’s likely just a question of the level of detail. The instructions in the navlog are deliberately vague and give general directions, not a turn by turn guide. I find the easiest way is to use the VOR map and study the terrain (turn on ISO lines), look for rivers, bodies of water etc. Obviously if you are following a road, or a river, you just follow them - wherever they go.
