Hi Folks,
About every other flight i have porpoising up and down nearly out of control after i disengage the AP. I manage to save the landing with a few bounces. My approach speed is about 75 kn which should be correct. Then the next flight is smooth, settings the same. I have tested this with actual weather, and with the clear sky settings and no difference. Anyone else have this problem? And have you found a solution? Thanks!!
What are your flap settings when you disengage the autopilot? The flaps create a noticeable lift/pitch increase and perhaps there’s some conflict between the AP trim and the flap setting.
To (mis)quote a Caravn pilot I saw on YT: the Caravan really wants to fly. It’s high wings give it a lot of lift…
Good point Tom! Thanks. I am not sure but i think probably 1 notch of flaps. I’ll try a couple of landings this weekend with no flaps before disconnect. I know that the caravan has more nose up tendency that my RW Warrior II. I have been landing the caravan with full flaps as my GoFlight TQ reverser levers no longer work [maybe not modeled in the default caravan?] I got a Virtual Fly TQ this week and will get it working this weekend hopefully. I’ll get back with what i find out on the flap issue, and many thanks for bringing this up!!
So I disconnected the AP before the first notch of flaps and the approach was much better! Looks like a notch or 2 of flaps before disconnect was the problem. I did have APCH rather than NAV at the time. Thanks for the suggestion!
