Description of the issue: Modern C-46 Autopilot doesn’t work correctly. When you select the vertical speed you want (ex. 1000 fpm) the trim stays put and the aircraft climbs until the nose drops and then climbs again. It does not capture the altitude set and continues climbing. In the video, the Nav button works and it captures the track, but most of the time it will not work and will fly off course. The altitude issue is constant.

after few testing flights, I found that C46 AP does operate in free flight, but is absolutely broken in career mode. I guess it happens due to some glitch with departure airports (every MFS2024 career mission for C46 starts with “airport issue detected”, and C46 is being teleported close to the runway). This probably destroys AP logic for the rest of the flight. Dear devs, please make a fix to C46 Modern AP !
I was looking forward to flying this in career mode. Fix the autopilot, or put the Sperry in the modern version, at least it worked. We tired of being constantly disappointed.
in career mode flight distances (medium cargo) are ~1000-1300 km, so it takes about 4 (!) hours to fly C46. Taking into account its behaviour and wind characteristics, I’m sure we must have AP that is working correctly…
I understand that. And you are correct that most of the flights elsewhere are 4 hours. The longest mission I’ve seen in Alaska was 2 1/2 hours. That’s where I do all my flying with the 46 right now because there is no autopilot. Most flights there are 1 1/2 hours
when you start at gates or when the starting airport is big enough for c46 then autopilot works,if they skip at start to runnway than doesnt matter what you do, autopilot climb will be bugged, this is in CAREER mode, i didnt free flight this plane. So pay attention for what airport you take jobs , try to find and choose a big airport at start.
Thanks DemerJR, that’s good info to know. Every airport I’ve started at in Alaska has the skip to runway problem. I’ll have to try a flight later that has a big enough starting airport. I submitted bug reports for the airport problem and the autopilot problem in career mode. Maybe if they fix one it will fix both.
recently I’ve got ‘proper’ airport for C46 takeoff (Career mission), so my route and avionics (EFB and onboard) were set up correctly but I still had encountered this glitch of AP… Unfortunately, it neither follows ALT mode nor NAV mode. It seems we have to wait for fixes/patches…
Testing right now , i found a good start in LIRJ, Italy( Elba island) to Germany, 3h30min flgith, so far so good, started parked, cold and dark, i dont trim him at all before turning AP on, so maybe is this trick, when im about 3k feet i hit ap and hold his nose until he stops diiving, then i seet altitude, press alt and set like 800 feet per min, then i use his heading to intercept NAV line His gyro drift lose about 1 degree every 20 mins or so, if you dont correct he will adrift and lose NAV precision

When I pick a 4 hour long mission around the CONUS, it starts cold and dark on the ramp and autopilot works (the GPS still gets some stupid backtracking waypoints). If you get a smaller airport it does just what you said. Funny too because the C-46 can operate out of small strips
