C172 Disable ROL when using Autopilot

Hi there! I am a bit lost on how to disable ROL when autopilot is enabled. I have ended up in a few instances where I enable autopilot, lock to ALT, and it does indeed do that, but also is stuck at the same tilt and going in circles since ROL seems to be enabled with the autopilot system.

Maybe I am misunderstanding something and need to do research on how autopilot works, but I feel certain I was not having this happen in the previous version of the game with the same plane.

Apologies if this is a silly question but appreciate any guidance anyone may have regarding autopilot and this plane in the 2024 version of the sim.

ROL is the default lateral mode if you haven’t selected a different one. It will maintain the roll angle of the wings that was present at the time you engaged the AP.

Select an alternative lateral mode like HDG or NAV to fix it.

I actually have the same problem and it stays in ROL even after pushing NAV mode. Is it a bug or am I doing something else wrong?

You have to get within a few degrees of being centered on your nav line. Look at the compass down below, and you see the magenta is way to my left, and remains in ROL mode. If I fly towards that magenta to get back on track, GPS should be able to take over.

Hi, had same issue not going ROL to NAV. Tried all suggestions and still no luck. Then reloaded flight plan i had done pre-takeoff. (Had already hit “send route to avionics” on the EFB on ground btw.)
Noticed the FP route had dropped off the Garmin nav map in flight too even though still loaded on FPL on FMS. So on EFB hit “send route to avionics” in flight and it immediately acknowledged the FP and GPS pink route line appeared again and automatically set ROL to GPS on FMS. Issue resolved. Must be a bug?

I think with loading new airport to avionics it starts a new leg from current postion
to first waypoint and then you are on track and it switches to GPS.

Most likely not a bug

See what you are saying but I eventually did this three way points into flight constantly switching between NAV and ROL whilst on the flight path but made no difference. Will try again and update post again if anything useful found.

ROL should change to GPS once you cross over/get near the flight path/pink line.

If it doesnt something else is up, but I believe that is intentional.

Make sure you are on course and your on the correct CDI mode (GPS or VLOC)

I been flying the cessna absolutely fine since launch time then all of a sudden yesterday it started switching into ROL mode and going in circles. Previously when HDG was not enabled nor autopilot it would fly straight and level (bar wind/cog/turbulence effects). All since thea latest patch

Hi All,
Quick update on my situation. GoSammy1971 and nigsnigs are correct. There is no bug and it works perfectly once over or in close range of actual GPS flight path.
