C172-G1000 - Rudder cannot be moved during preflight

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
When performing the pre-flight the rudder cannot be moved left/right.

If applicable, which aircraft is experiencing this issue:
Cessna 172 G1000

Yes.

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?
100% of the time.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

  1. Start cold and dark free flight with C172 G1000
  2. Walk to the rudder
  3. Try to move it and find it does not move.

Logitec mouse. The ailerons and elevator move perfectly fine with the mouse.

Isn’t the rudder directly connected to the nose-wheel? It is very difficult to turn the nose-wheel when the aircraft is stationary. Think of an old car without power steering) so maybe that’s a feature and not a bug, not sure though.

Good point. I think they are connected but when performing a pre-flight check for GA airplanes, usually you are able to manually move the rudder even if connected to the nose wheel. If you test the C152, the nose wheel is also connected to the rudder pedals and you can move the rudder during pre-flight. For sure a C172 real pilot will provide the right answer.

You can move the Rudder in a C172 on the ground quite easily, and checking freedom and range of motion is actually part of the Pre-Flight Inspection in Section 4 of the POH.
