I am on SU4
Hmm interesting, than It might be my mod.
I will investigate.
Thanks for testing, but I donât think itâs a trim power issue.
With a realistic skydive loadout (or in this case semi-realistic even distriubution), the aircraft behaves as if the CG has shifted forward, requiring excessive aft stick just to maintain level flight.
In reality:
- Jumpers sit aft of the CG
- Fuel is usually low
- The aircraft tends to be neutral to slightly tailâheavy, not noseâheavy
- You do not need âhuge back stickâ after flap retraction
That doesnât seem ârealisticâ and would be the same with cargo in a similar distribution. The only difference there is you lose the cargo of meat missiles at jump height and race them to the ground.
My observation is the aircraft is behaving as if the CG is too far forward, and changing the trim to compensate is just masking the issue.
Are you sure you are not adversely changing the CG modelling?
For reference, you can read Cessna 208 Caravan Skydiving Aircraft - DiverDriver.com
Trim settings I have inflight SU5 with close to your pax/fuel load flaps 0
Take Off second notch of flaps
No nose down tendancy.
But I noticed one thing. As soon as I try to manipulate my empty CG moving it by mouse (the default settings are 12 see the picture below) to lets say 24 and after this reload aircraft my MAC drops to 9 (did not save the picture). And this is where I receive a hell of nose down forces.
default CG
Thanks for testing.
I didnât touch the empty CG, though I note the mod author has changed it to a fixed 12% and you need to use the loading dialog, going by their notes.
As mentioned, the loading dialog was also throwing errors on me sometimes (only using the cargo/fuel pages, not empty cg) and failing to load properly with the mod installed, so perhaps that also has something to do with it. The CG should be automatically adjusted based on the input fuel/cargo load and warns if itâs over.
There shouldnât be any need to adjust the empty cg anyway, even though you can for some strange reason (as many people have noted over the years), despite developers locking it to spec in the cfg files.
With mod uninstalled not having any load dialog issues.
Let me know if I can help in any way or provide any data (although I suck at anything technical when it comes to computers)
OK, DO NOT move the empty cg with my mod, you canât really move the empty CG in real life either. Sadly there is a current bug with the EFB that it lets you move it even when it is disabled (this is a setting in the aircraft , and I force fixed CG position), but if you do then you will get a bunch of loading errors. So donât touch empty CG.
About the Skydiver variant, I have a suspicion what might be the issue with the Skydiver variant. The missing cargo pod, I might have messed up the weight distribution and it is correct with the pod, but not without it, I will have a look.
Does the mod works with the new sound set from Echo19?
Tried this mod for the first time today in SU5. Latest version from fs.to (I think v1.3 if I remember correctly.)
The plane doesnât like me. Itâs loud, always blasting me with various alarms ![]()
I did notice at one point a strong left roll during climb out that kept disabling AP. Trims were all neutral, and I tried AP in ROL mode and in HDG mode, and I was still getting frequent disconnects.
I also had an AP disconnect when on the glide path in an RNAV approach where I was stable and on speed before the disconnect.
Iâm not sure if there are any oddities like this that others have seen, or if itâs just on my end at this point.
Oh my, oh my! What has ever become of my trusty Grand Caravan from old? It used to be such a stable, reliable and fun aircraft from the FSX and FS2020 daysâŠ
No more. Not 2 years ago, not now with SU5!
I keep hoping that they will eventually get THIS version âupgradedâ to the levels of the good olâ days.
Progress has been made on the previous wing wagging (yaw effects) on final approaches and the wobbling effects on the runway.
BUT, this version seems to have now adopted the same braking issue that still possesses the Diamond DA40 in FS2024 (apparently ignored in SU5).
It takes an inordinate amount of runway to get her âwhoaâed upâ after landing, and she taxis very fast at idle. Not very immersive, Iâm afraid.
The best solution Iâve found so far in the sim is to use Low Idle on approach. Gives a much shorter ground roll. For taxying Low Idle and Beta. This was towards the end of SU5 Beta testing.
I think this thread is for the Caravan Mod posted on fs.to.
If you want to discuss the stock plane, this is the official thread:
Right you are! Sorry about that, pal.
I added a small compatibility patch for the Echo19 sound pack, so if you want to use my mod with the Echo19 sounds, plz install this small patch as well.
AP will disengage the moment the stall warning sound play (this is before real stall)
Also AP will disengage if you turn of the Yaw Damper.
AP will also disengage in unusual attitudes meaning bank higher than 60 degrees or pitch higher than 30 degrees.
This is modeled after the real autopilot limits.
GREAT! Will test it tomorrow
