Can flights be saved in MSFS 2024?

My reply is based on what is capable in FS2024 to my knowledge.

I am PC & MS Store.
I do not use third party programs.

But please let us know when you figure out how to save a flight.

MSFSRonS -= interesting posts. From what I read, saving (and then maybe re-loading those saved flight files) may be possible with the aid of FSUIPC, that seems to have the ability to create and save a flight file, but without FSUIPC, or any knowledge of its features, then yes, it would appear that 2024 cannot itself save flight files.

My apologies msfsron but you are wrong it is complicated it is buggy but possible 2024 and 2020

I don’t know anything about FSUIPC but a Google search
provided this:
“FSUIPC just calls the MSFS SDK functions to load & save flights”.
And FS2024 does not save flights: just Flight Plans.

I’m still waiting for a response with the procedure to save and load a flight.

I should note that I presently save and load a .flt file with FS2024
along with a .pln file.
But the .flt file in FS2024 only has the “Flight Conditions” (date, time, weather).

The .flt file saved in FS2020 also had the Flight Plan included.

It still exists in the EFB, it’s just now called Import and Save buttons at the top of the flight planner

In FS2024 you can only Import/Load or Save a Flight Plan.

Previous .flt files from FS2020 (that had a flight plan included in them)
cannot be loaded in FS2024.

A flight cannot be saved in FS2024 and then loaded.
Only Flight Plans can be saved and loaded.

I’m still waiting on someone to provide the procedure to save a flight
and load it to continue the flight.

This is wrong. Saving/Loading FLTs still work on my end for MSFS 2024. It’s just called Import –> Load PLN File which then opens up the old options then do Load From PC and type the name of the FLT file you saved.

Then to save an FLT, click the Save button in the EFB and then Save to this PC. Then save the file as whatever name then add the .flt at the end, it will save it as an FLT

1.5.23.0

It works.

  1. Start FS2024.
  2. Select KLGA as destination. Start Flight.
  3. Sitting on runway, select EFB
  4. Save flight.
  5. flight saved as LGAtest.flt
  6. Return to Main Menu, Free Flight
  7. EFB, Load Plan File
  8. Enter LGAtest.flt

You’re doing it wrong, I still have the options to Save To Web, save to PC etc. Just put .flt at the end of the file name

You’re correct.
I tried it and the saved .flt file works.
I stand corrected.
Thanks.

I’ll correct the above reply.

Its funny, I was thinking " You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink".
Turns out, I was the horse.

Asobo/MS has changed it but I don’t know which SU did it.

Hello,

I can’t get the file to save as a .flt. It seems to lock me into saving as a .pln despite following these above steps.

I’d appreciate the help as not being able to save is game breaking to me.

It amazes me that whoever is programming this app seems to not follow standard practices.

  1. To save, enter the file name with the .flt included, name.flt.
( The program used to add a .pln to the file name.
    ( name.flt.pln)
    (it doesn’t now)

  2. When you load the saved name.flt file, it will not be
displayed on the screen; only .pln file are displayed.
Enter . to display all or *.flt to display .flt files.

I am trying to understand this concept of being able to save flights, .flt, not flight plans, .pln.

  1. Set Departure as KJFK, Runway 31 R
  2. Set time as 13:03
  3. Click “Start Flight”
  4. Takeoff
  5. Fly towards KLGA
  6. At halfway, Save flight in EFB as test.flt
    or
Land at KLGA, Save as testrunway.flt
  7. Return to Main Menu, Free Flight
  8. Load test.flt
    or
    Load testrunway.flt
  9. Departure is displayed as KJFK, 31R

Please tell me what it is that I do not understand.

I know what you’re talking about. Maybe you want to try this :

I don’t have the 3rd party app, FCR.

But, I watched the video.
He loaded a Flight Plan.
Flew it.
At some point midair, saved the FCR.
Loaded Flight Plan again.
Loaded the FCR.
Stated you are right where you were.
Then stated that there might be things you need to reconfigure for the airplane.

I’ll pass.

FCR is not a 3rd party app. Its in the sim. Its an embedded Replay tool.

Otherwise there is no other way, unfortunately.

*and I dont think that they are going to add this ability.

Okay, I see it now.

It is Flight Control Replay.
Not flight save.

Wish somebody would make a simple DLC that would do that. Seems simple.

Just did a test.

It works, except that it MAYBE won’t keep the state of fuel quantity left, passengers, cargo weight and the aircraft wear. It keeps the aircraft position and state though.

  1. Start a Free Flight with the location and the airplane of your choice (e.g. C172)
  2. When you reach your destination, landing /taxi to parking and shut down the aircraft (you might want to get out as well)
  3. Take notes through EFB of aircraft weight (cargo/passengers/mass center) and fuel quantity left, as you might need them to replace them after the flight/replay load.
  4. Open FCR
  5. Click on “Record”
  6. Now on the Record panel press the “Record” button for 2 or 3 seconds then press “Record” button once again to stop the recording.
  7. Now click on “Save”
  8. Exit the flight
  9. The next time you want to continue from where you parked, go to Free Flight
  10. Select the same airplane as selected when you saved the flight/replay (e.g. C172) and a random airport/location
  11. When you ready to fly in the cockpit (or any view), select the FCR again
  12. Click on “Load Replay”
  13. Select the flight/replay you saved
  14. Go to 1 second in the seek bar
  15. Now press “Take plane control” and close the window.
  16. Press “Tab” key to open the EFB panel and check the passengers, cargo weight, fuel quantity to match the state before you save the flight/replay.

Thats it !

I think its the ONLY way to save the flight and continue your tour with an aircraft as on FSX etc. before. Also I dont recommend mods for these things as they might break through the time and updates.

*Taking about Free Flight mode. BTW I dont care or fly any other sections e.g. Challenges,Career etc. except of Flight Training section. I have the licences of First Solo, Private, Instrument Rating from FS2004, FSX. so…..

I think this might help.

I tried it.
VFR works
Flight Plan (IFR) doesn’t work - FCR doesn’t save the Flight Plan.

VFR - works
I departed Kennedy, KJFK 31R and landed La Guardia, KLGA 31.
Stopped on the runway.
Recorded around 10 seconds while sitting on the runway.
Save FCR flight.
Back to Free Flight and KJFK 31R.
Loaded FCR flight.
Back to KLGA 31.

IFR - doesn’t work
EFB - load Flight Plan = IFR/ILS - KJFK 31R to KEWR 22R
Land at KLGA
Recorded around 10 seconds while sitting on the runway.
Save FCR flight
Back to Free Flight and KJFK 31R.
Loaded FCR flight.
Back to KLGA 31.
The Flight Plan is lost.

For VFR, why not just spawn at KLGA?

FCR is a “replay” app.
From search “FS 2024 FCR”
“In Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, FCR stands for Flight Control Replay (Flight Control Recorder), which is a built-in tool for recording, saving, and replaying your flights.”

You can “Take control of airplane” at any time during the recording to continue flying (ex. landing practice).
