Can It Be Assumed That Items Purchased From In-Sim Marketplace Will Not Cause CTD's?

Title says it. Can one feel confident that anything purchased from Marketplace is safe and will not cause problems? Does Asobo vet all items before they are released to Marketplace?
Thanks.

Unfortunately not.

I purchased fiat g 91 aircraft yesterday from marketplace shows up in my hanger with all liveries however every time i hit the fly now button CTD with no error message.

Oh ■■■■. I was afraid of that.

No, but the majority of CTDs will be caused by items which are not in the marketplace.

But sorry I have to ask you if you own MSFS? or are you scared by the horror stories that it will CTD all the time. Because in that case let me tell you that not all of us have an unusual amount of CTDs. I had 2 in all of September and during the same time X-Plane had at least 3 times more.

i.e. all sims will sometimes CTD if you put in big mods, risk running out of memory or alt-tab to name a few things.

The thing with MSFS is that by nature it has a very high data transfer rate, that means if you have any kind of issue with eg memory, harddisk or internet transfer it will reveal those issues. You may get away with games that only use tiny amounts of memory and then MSFS appears to be faulty when in fact it is your computer.

According to a support answer I received yesterday even Marketplace-Items can cause CTD, this means that we have no verification process for the marketplace items which makes the store pretty much uninteresting. They should do it like Apple.

The marketplace is just that, a marketplace. As anyone who has been using flight simulators for a long time will tell you, addons can inadvertently cause problems, but most developers are responsive and will help resolve your issues. There are pros and cons to buying from the marketplace, but it’s more a convenience thing. It shouldn’t put you off though. I’d suggest try one addon at a time. That way you can narrow any issues down to the last change you made. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the timely and helpful responses. I purchased MSFS a year ago but have only been playing it about 5 months. In that time I’ve had lots of CTD’s. I have high end machine with lots of memory. I know how dicey addons can be, that’s why I asked about Marketplace. I hoped they would be safe, but I didn’t expect so. I guess I’ll just take my chances on things I really want—like the DC-6 maybe.
Ciao’

When I loaded MSFS in my new laptop I decided to avoid ALL add-ons whether Marketplace or aftermarket. I have an empty community folder and no Marketplace stuff other than the World Updates. I don’t even have that free MS livery.

Today, while enjoying a VR flight over Maine, US a sudden CDT hit. I took off my headset and saw that MSFS was shut down entirely.

It’s obvious that if MSFS crashes with an empty community it won’t crash less with marketplace items added. So you should first try to solve problem number 1 before moving to problem number 2.

Addon creators may need some time to adapt their products after World and Sim Updates, I think.

I installed the season pack addon (Fall N. & Spring S. by Bijan Habshi) last week. It was added for this WU. Took me an age to get Belgium to load without crashing. I had to fly in from France to make the cache update.

So no, even with the market place there can be issues. Add in that one add on could counter another add on. The variables to check this out across all locations would be too much to expect.

That’s an unrealistic expectation. If they did, it would take a gigantic test matrix and a lot of time.

Who would pay for the testing? Would people complain and rant when their favorite add on from the store was delayed due to a testing backlog? Of course.

Comparing apps in the Google Play or iTunes app stores is apples and oranges and a bad analogy. Those are standalone apps and are being tested on a small universe of hardware/software, and only for the ability to run and not violate certain parameters.

How do you validate that one add on will run with all versions of hardware/software, other add ons, etc.?

The problem is not the add ons manufacturers, their creations probably works without problems when they submit it to Market Place, until Asobo update the game that causes new bugs.

You going to guarantee that? Then what’s the point of testing?

Sorry, I’ve been doing this for decades and 3rd party add ons have bugs, need patches and updates, and cause crashes too.

All - I have only purchased two items extra for this game. One is DC designs F-14 and DID NOT purchase from marketplace. I purchased from Just Flight. I purchased the IFR Training from Simmarket as well as the Big Manual on MSFS, since revised and re-released for additional money. Like I keep saying, this is a money train for MS/Asobo. As for F-14. IT IS the MOST STABLE PLANE IN THIS SIM. Yes, the sim might cause issues, but the plane fly’s perfect, watch low speed manuevers, and the A model will compressor stall, yes that is built into plane. I am trying to learn all their is on Autopilot system and then will test it flying Low/High Level/Star ILS approaches in many locations to make sure I got it. It’s really the most fun to fly, you can do all sorts of things on ground, lower ladder to board, open cockpit and close it. Remove chocks, covers, and get a puffer to start you up. Check list is better in revised model. Manual on plane available without purchase, go to JustFlight, find F-14 and look down in comments, manual there.

Unfortunately the answer is definitely a no.

It takes Asobo a minimum of 2 weeks to publish any updates that third party developers push in the marketplace. This means that any CTD-causing bugs just recently fixed by the 3rd party developers will take 2 weeks to get to you.

That isn’t an accurate comparison. Apple developers know the platform and specs of all devices they’re coding for. PC developers don’t have that luxury.
