Can someone explain photogrammetry?

I do not see an option for this in my in-game graphics settings. Is it something I can turn on/off? Is it beneficial?
Never heard of this before, thanks in advance for any helpful replies…

It is in the Data Section of Options. It provides more 3D photo real scenery mostly for large cities.

Basically, photorammetry is where certain cities have had advanced imaging done, so those pictures are then able to be projected in 3D models and look like buildings. Not all cities have it though, and you can enable or disable it in the Options menu. You should have it on as much as you can, unless you computer can’t handle it. It is what adds realism to some of the cities.

It’s a process of creating a 3D model of an object using just photos.

So in short, instead of manually modeling an object, such as a building, you would take multiple pictures around that building and import those pictures into a software, which would then make the 3D of the building automatically for you.

Google Earth, Bing Maps etc have certain cities modeled in photogrammetry, meaning they had aircraft flown over cities taking thousands of photographs of the city below. These photos are then stitched together to create a 3D city instead of manually modeling a whole city.

In the sim, you should turn it on if your PC specs allows as it allows for maximum realism.

Much thanks to all!
