Whenever I update the sim, and I get to the screen that says tell me where you want your Packages installed, I make sure the path reads
E:\Steam\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages
which prevents a full reinstall.
Since E:\ is a physical drive separate from C: where Windows is, I’m guarded against losing the majority of the sim files if something happens to the Operating System.
But you cannot define a separate Community folder that is not co-located with the Official folder. That’s because the sim only understands the Packages path, and assumes both folders are beneath that.
You can install the items that you would put in the community folder anywhere you want, but you need to use an addon linker, or creating symbolic links to use them
Using MSFS Addons Linker is the best thing to do. Simple, effcient and useful.
And a littke tuto to start with it (you’ll find others on YT):
No more headaches with your addons.
And by creating an empty profile you can disable all of them in two clicks for updates or looking if an addon gives an issue.
Prior to making this thread, I already watched 2 yt videos on the add on linker. Both videos they often go off topic and I easily got lost. However someone very nice from the forums has reached out to offer assistance in dm, so once again the FS community shows how helpful they are.
I have downloaded the add on linker, I have several tabs open of what I want to add(or re-add). I’m just going to wait for instruction step by step as to what to do, instead of me blindly trying to assume what to do b/c I really do not trust myself.
