Can someone help me with steam community folder?

I’m still learning about pc gaming and it can be confusing at my novice level.

I just did a clean install, downloaded all my marketplace add ons but now I want to add my payware and freeware add ons.

I know people have recommended having a separate community folder but I am not sure the proper way to set it up.

I’d be very greatful if someone in the awesome flight sim community could assist me.

Thank you much and happy flying!

The Community folder will always be a peer to the Official folder.

What I did in Steam is define a Steam Library path on my dedicated NVME drive E:\ and had the sim install the Packages folder there.

So Steam knows E:\ is a defined Library path and offers that in the list whenever I install a game from my Steam library.

I had the sim install the Packages to:

E:\Steam\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages

Under Packages there are two subdirectories:

E:\Steam\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages\Official

and

E:\Steam\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages\Community

Whenever I update the sim, and I get to the screen that says tell me where you want your Packages installed, I make sure the path reads

E:\Steam\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages

which prevents a full reinstall.

Since E:\ is a physical drive separate from C: where Windows is, I’m guarded against losing the majority of the sim files if something happens to the Operating System.

But you cannot define a separate Community folder that is not co-located with the Official folder. That’s because the sim only understands the Packages path, and assumes both folders are beneath that.

You can install the items that you would put in the community folder anywhere you want, but you need to use an addon linker, or creating symbolic links to use them

Using MSFS Addons Linker is the best thing to do. Simple, effcient and useful.

And a littke tuto to start with it (you’ll find others on YT):

No more headaches with your addons.
And by creating an empty profile you can disable all of them in two clicks for updates or looking if an addon gives an issue.

Hi there, I was just about to post the link to MSFS 2020 Addon Linker…

Yes, Addon Linker is the most useful program for MSFS on PC, I would not be able to do without it anymore with the hundreds of add-ons I now have.

Prior to making this thread, I already watched 2 yt videos on the add on linker. Both videos they often go off topic and I easily got lost. However someone very nice from the forums has reached out to offer assistance in dm, so once again the FS community shows how helpful they are.

I have downloaded the add on linker, I have several tabs open of what I want to add(or re-add). I’m just going to wait for instruction step by step as to what to do, instead of me blindly trying to assume what to do b/c I really do not trust myself.
