Can the two sims co-exist on a single SSD

I had decided to hold of on 2024 and let the dust settle for a couple of months (or however long it took for the complaints and bugs to lessen). My son had other ideas and bought the Premium Deluxe for me as a Xmas present. Now i’m obligated to install it (I guess…LOL).

I fully intend to continue on MSFS2020 because I’m not ready to lose the benefits of LNM and FSLTL, which are apparently hobbled because of MSFS2024 structure with no immediate solution in sight. I’ve got WAY too many hours invested in the original sim to join the impromptu beta crowd, but I’m willing to try the new sim and see if I can get my feet wet.

My question is this:
Shall I install the new sim on the same 2TB SSD (can they co-exist)?
If so, how does that appear on my desktop? Are there two separate shortcuts to select frome?
I have 3 other 1TB SSDs installed and wonder if I should migrate one or the other sims to one of the other SSDs.

Thanks for your replies and insights!

P.S., I’m sure 2024 will be magnificent once the majority of the problems are ironed out, just too old to suffer through another steep learning curve…

I have both sims on a single NVMe in my laptop.

They are treated as separate applications as differently as any other — each has its own executable and shortcut in the Start menu.

Both work fine when installed together.

You can move the Community/Onestore folder to a new location and change the folder direction in the settings.

If you mean migrating the game install folder you can do that from the Xbox app and select the Move option.

The two sims are completely separate from each other, its like having super Mario, then installing Pokémon. there will be no registry overlap between them, nor any other issues. 2 TB should be good if you keep 2024 streamed and have available space enough for 2020. personally, i do have them both in the same ssd.

I would add to this.

Don’t try to be clever and point both sims to the same Community folder.

You need to ensure they each have their own separate Community folders.

Note also that some vendors with 3rd-party downloads are starting to ship 2024 editions of planes and will offer to install the appropriate version into each separate community folder, so indeed keep your community folders distinct.

Right, and if you want to link the community folders you better use something like MSFS addons linker (two versions now, 20 and 24).

Just a warning from my side. After installing MSFS 2024 this happened to 2020. No one could help me on the forum and had to reinstall

Thanks for the heads up! That is definitely no bueno!

It looks like it’s only happened to very few people

I too have both sims installed on the same drive (and both are via Game Pass too). No problems at all.
