Can we just show interesting stuff on this forum?

Hi all,
I love to read about new planes, flying techniques, tips and tricks and MSFS great experiences, upcoming releases and old blokes who have been simming since the 80s.This forum is 80% complaining about fps rates, crashes and someones house that looks wrong in the sim. Is there a way to filter out the whinging and show the interesting stuff…

There is a new filter in settings: Show only happy peoples posts.

Yesterday evening, I had a perfect flight in F35 at sunset through the swiss Alps valleys, just below sunrays that were brushing the moutains’s tops and crests…
Flying real weather, there were scattered clouds that were coloring into orange to purple, my VR headset is still recovering from such overwhelming beauty :star_struck:

Hope it fills up your lust for happy things in MSFS

Just subscribe to the “What did you do in MSFS today?” thread, and also the “your top 5 aircraft/scenery” threads, they are the best on the forum.

And yes, I enjoy the interesting positive threads more, but that only works until you’re one of the ones badly affected by a serious bug/release failure, then you’ll be there in those “whinging threads” hoping that Asobo actually do something about it.

As to the threads where people are whinging that the top speed of the aircraft differs by 5% from the sales literature, etc, well just use the dropdown at the bottom of every thread and select Muted.

You can also hide individual posters if they annoy you enough.

This would be the first post  :sunglasses:

I wish there was a 'misery loves company section" some of the POSTS are just long-winded rants full of Micro$oft Asobo complaints. sometimes I laugh when people have real high-end systems and are constantly plagued with issues and blame it on the sim. or they have just had an argument with their wife and fire up fs2020 and get a CTD, I like to help people with genuine issues and I will post screenshots and suggestions, but the emotional really long posts I just skip over, unless I can spot a spelling mistake. I dont engage in the forums much anymore because of the DRAMA…

I have been thinking about this since Oct ‘20. Section titles:

  • Halls of Happiness
  • Dungeons of Disaster
  • Critic’s Corner
  • Third Party Threshold
  • Student’s Saloon
  • Peripheral’s Pantry
  • The Room with Many Views
  • The Bug-Beak
  • Wishes’ Wonderland
  • The X-Box
  • Etc.

And away with the general section!

There are great subforums outside of General Discussion.
Third Party Addon section is much more interesting, enlightening, positive and entertaining than General Discussion. Folks discuss products in depth there and the forum traffic has much more life and diverse individual personalities and mindsets than Avsim, which consist of the same 50 users sharing their same preferences, biases and criticism since MSFS release.

FPS chasers are my biggest bugbear, I have top range PC never looked at FPS, lock it at 30…runs very smooth, but that is my personal choice. I mainly look at 3rd party…new releases and had great advice from real world pilots.

Also reading articles from some pilots post here are fantastic and such a learning curve.

A thread that whinges about whingers is actually quite entertaining😂

No disrespect, but perhaps it’s because it’s not running properly for 80% of us? I wish mine was running smoothly like yours, enjoy it, cause I’m still waiting to be able to enjoy it.

“Whinging, whiners, insert other labels here…”

No name calling folks. First and last warning on that.

The only thing worse than a whinging thread is a thread whinging about whinging threads. You wrote

How does this thread that you’ve just started fall into your definition of an interesting thread?

if you see a thread you find boring, you should do what I’m going to do with this thread - put it on mute, then you won’t see it anymore.

In that case you should lock the thread because the OP used “whinging” in the first post. The entire thread is about whinging.

Well, I think that your post is quite disrespectful to the other 80%+ people that are running this sim smoothly.

:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Please provide evidence for your assertion that 80%+ have smooth running in this sim.

Owww you Wombat!
Don’t you feel the Raging irony in your post (and mine)?
May I add the following to this mind boggling piece of statistical science:
I think that you’re in fact right in saying that the sim doesn’t run smoothly for 80% of the people who are complaining on this forum…

No.
It’s because gaming forums in general are notorious for being negative and disproportionately draw in people who are dissatisfied and want to vent their anger and find like-minded people. People who are happy with a game often don’t visit forums or are far less vocal in voicing their happiness. They just play and are happy.

This has been the case ever since I visited the first gaming forums some 20 years ago. With games getting more complex and expectations increasing all the time, chances are you will find even more unhappy people in forums in the future.

But even if there had been an internet in 1980 and this were a Pac-Man forum (younger people might have to google “Pac-Man”) then people would complain that the ghosts were too fast and not translucent, that the way they have to control Pac-Man is not realistic, that the Power Pellets should work longer, and that the cherry doesn’t look real enough.

And it’s not just gaming forums. It’s Facebook groups, Twitter followers and WhatsApp groups etc. If people are dissatisfied it’s easy to find a disproportionate amount people who think the same way they do. That gives them the impression their views are shared by far more people than ever could be true.

The fact that you believe that MSFS is not running properly for 80% of the people, shows that a forum tends to distort reality, emphasise negative feelings and blow problems out of proportion. In fact, just by visiting a forum you might get aware of many small flaws you otherwise wouldn’t even have noticed.

I won’t claim that everything is brilliant with MSFS, because it simply isn’t. Also I don’t want to negate the problems you might have if MSFS does not work properly (whatever that may mean). BUT I dare say, for the majority it also isn’t even remotely as bad as people often make it out to be at times.
