Can we please do away with these load screens?

When I click ‘Start Flight’ in MSFS 2024, the screen freezes on a bird’s-eye view of the selected airport. There is no movement until the camera transitions to the aircraft once loading is complete. During this time, the screen appears rough and lacks detail, making it unpleasant to look at. Given my 100 Mbps internet connection, I’m surprised that the loading screens are so blurry.

What was the philosophy behind that? Can this please be fixed?

It has to load the content. Basically at alt the level of detail can be loaded instantly = it doesn’t need to be detailed. In the background its streaming down all of the detail to the cache. Once this is complete, the zoom in to your aircraft starts.

Just as a test, try to increase your TLOD as explained in that report : World Map / Globe for Free Flight looks terrible at normal levels of TLOD

There is nothing pretty about the GTA V top down zoom in thing when starting a flight, why not a normal static loading screen? Was this change really needed?

The other thing that bothers me greatly is the change from cockpit to external view when hitting escape. Make sure you have a bucket ready when doing that in VR .

It truely is the worst UI ever. The control bindings, VR graphic settings location, no more hangar, horrible aircraft selection menu offering no details and some weird horizontal scroll.

I still can’t zoom in or out in external view and often can’t zoom in or out in cockpit view either…

If that static loading screen means unloading the world from the map screen, then re-loading it again for the flight to start, then that will just increase loading times, and undo the work they did going from 2020 to 2024. It won’t speed anything up, just make slower still.

I don’t know anything about coding but I assume that showing a loading screen doesn’t mean everything needs to unload and load back in the background. I would prefer a setting to disable all kind of menu animations, top down loading views, hopping in and out of cockpit view etc.

Sure, you could just present a blank screen over the top of the sim as it loads, but what does that achieve. You might as well turn off your monitor till you hear some audible cue that you can now hit the fly button.

It’s not a load screen. The whole sim world is visible even from the Free flight menu, the delay you’re experiencing is it loading in the extra detail before it zooms into your aircraft.

This just seems like a complete non-issue. Even more so considering all the other things that need attention.

That’s right. In 2020, on the map screen you had a version of the world loaded, where you can spin the globe, and build your flight. This then needed to be unloaded, then the “real” world gets loaded so you can fly. In 2024 there is only one world, and its present right from the map screen. The higher fidelity version of it, and its assets, are loaded when the flight is loaded.

It just doesn’t look professional, seeing all the low res textures and objects popping in. By far the worst is this popping in and out of cockpit view when hitting escape, have a bucket ready when in VR. It’s all not really necessary.

i agree its a non issue, but when trying to fine tune graphic settings it gets old really fast
an option to disable all animations would be useful

I can agree with that, even without VR. There are a lot of unnecessary fluff pieces like this that could be disabled to streamline the experience. It’s a bit like the old “Press any key” screen as 2020 loaded. Superfluous, yet some product manager or artist wanted it.

I almost forgot about the “press any key”, all those times I started FS2020, went for a coffee only to find FS2020 waiting for me to press “the” key :face_with_spiral_eyes::joy:.

Are you suggesting that it ought to load the data without displaying any of it while it’s working? I’m not sure if that would actually improve the speed or not.

I always have TLOD 200 or higher.

Yes, I agree that zooming out of the cockpit when hitting Escape is an issue, too, as it also unloads the cockpit textures and other textures close to the aircraft, only to reload them when you zoom back in.

Sure it’s a non-issue, compared to the significant other issues - but that doesn’t make it irrelevant. Is a blurred loading screen what we should expect from a $200 premium game in 2024 that was intended to be the best flight simulator of this decade? Someone needs to raise it.

i dont understand
i’m talking about the woosh in-and-out animations

Instead of having a blurred view of the map, the world textures could load in the background while watching a video clip. Just like when you start the Sim.
