I seem to start out ok (TBM) and cruise along at FL26. Frame rate is like 55-60 FPS, CPU 20-25%. But as time goes on by FPS continues to drop. First it’s like 30-40 after an hour in flight. Then 10-20 FPS around the 2+ hour mark. Then eventually I can’t really control the plane or dials due to the screen stutter. Any ideas? I was using the Unreal weather add-on at first in the flight. But it didn’t get any better (FPS) switching to Live or present weather. I didn’t have this issue in previous updates (least I don’t think so, hard to test now). At least not prior to 5. For the 5th update the game was unplayable between the controller issues and CTD.
If you have AI traffic enabled, try turning it off and use Live Traffic instead. Over time, it would appear that AI traffic isn’t “killed” when you get out of its range and it keeps growing and growing, slowing down your sim.
Thanks @Crunchmeister71. I’ll give that a try, I did have AI traffic on…
I don’t use AI traffic and don’t have the issue and I’ve flown for 3-4 hours fairly regularly. I don’t use it because as soon as I do I get regular little stutters. They are small stutters but I prefer the buttery smoothness of it being off.
Go figure… I thought AI would be less system load then tracking and displaying live airplane traffic data…
Nah, the system has (or at least should) to use come kind of flight dynamics for all the AI aircraft. Remember that the system as to keep track of AI aircraft world wide so it can know when it will fly into your location. IT won’t draw them if they are far away, but it is still CPU cycles.
For multi-player there is much less data to process, it is just a vector and speed plus a bit of interpolation to smooth out the motion and they don’t have to worry about the flight plan at all. They just draw it if it is less than X distance away, there is nothing extra to keep track off.
While I’m a programmer I haven’t done anything like a sim so the above is basically a guess based on what I think I’d have to do.
Regarding live traffic, I’ve never turned it on. Granted I’m using DSL, so every bit matters, but air traffic would in general be so far away, or I’d be flying in such remote places, it wouldn’t make a difference.
