I have been flying from day one with no problems. Last Friday, my HP Reverb G2 headset died and they think it is the cable so are shipping a new one. In the meantime, I have been flying in 2D with no problems. Yesterday, I flew a short flight from KALW to KPUW without a hitch. Shut down the computer and last night started MSFS to do another flight and just before the “Ready to Fly” screen – CTD! Tried different aircraft, different airports (Europe, South America, etc.) all to no avail. Emptied the Community folder, removed all saved flights and flight plans, no difference. Tried a landing challenge (Chile) and it worked without a hitch. Tried a mission, got the same CTD again. I am at wits end.
My System:
Intel i9-9900K
64GB RAM
nVidia RTX 2080 Super
1TB SSD
Windows 10 21H1
Internet speed: 115mbps
I only fly GA aircraft, normally in rural settings. All my settings are med/high. Normal 50 FPS. I am an 82-year old retired computer technician and flying is my passion. HELP!!!
Have you tried reseting the rolling cache ?
Topic moved into #bugs-and-issues:ctds for troubleshooting CTD issues.
aye disconnct your G2 reverb.Coud be causing some conflict.Mbe also check for updates on windows.
I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the audio driver (Realtek).
For some reason the simulator refused to work with the manufacturer’s driver.
It was solved by erasing the device and letting Windows install its own driver.
Have removed cable and headset, also uninstalled Mixed Reality Portal. I am up to date on updates, in fact it seems in retrospect that Win 10 updated just before this problem started to occur. Thanks so much for the quick reply. By the way, event viewer shows the VCRuntime140.dll error.
I know its a long shot , could your nvidia driver be corrupted .Try uninsall the display driver and use that one again or what the fs community reccomend .
Reset rolling cache and re-sized the cache file from 16GB to 64GB. No change. I have all traffic disabled.
Have tried all suggestions and continue to test. Found that the only Landing Challenge I am able to run is the Chile one . . . tried three others and all CTD with the event viewer showing VCRuntime140.dll error. Seems so strange the one landing challenge works perfectly. I am running the 471.11 nVidia driver. I could try to revert back to the old standby 457.30, but 471.11 has been working beautifully. How frustrating this is!!
So the rolling cache thing did nothing,if you havnt done so already reboot the system, sorry I guess you know alot more about computers than I do.Maybe just go for a walk and come back to it later. Computers are not worth the hassle.
Just did a clean install of nVidia driver 457.30 – still CTD. Went back to 471.11. I always do a restart after any changes. Maybe I’ll just have to wait for the July 27th update to see if that fixes it. Will need to see if the new cable for the Reverb G2 fixes that problem, too. Thanks so much to everyone who has tried to help . . . I’m willing to try anything!
Bummer, well who knows like you say maybe the update can do it for you .That vr.runtime error in your events list is pretty common lately for me to.
My reverb plays up most days, saying your hmd failed to start at 90 mhz and sometimes there is just nobody home and the light on the front of the headset stays off, so I go through the routine and unplug the cable from the headset and uplug the power from the adapter then push them back in then unplug usb and video cable, push them back in and that gets it going again so far so good .Hope you get your reverb cable soon.
I have the exact same problem. When I get the CTD cleaning up the Community folder does not help. I have to uninstall and reinstall the sim. This is not a big deal as all configs are retained.
I suspect an addon to cause this. Could you post a list of your addons?
By the way, I also mainly fly GA aircraft in bush missions, preferably in Alaska.
Did you try to reset the Microsoft Flight Sim app in the programs & features. Worked for me once.
Reset and Repair didn’t work for me.
Well my only next move would be to wipe it clean and re-install.
Just uninstall it and then reinstall. In the store less than 2GB get installed. In the sim then it’s just a few MB that need to be downloaded as everything is still there.
After that my sim worked again. Until the next CTD.
You could check in the device manager to see if it shows any unidentified hardware without drivers. I had this problem once after changing some hardware. I just removed them it it solved my problem.
Thanks, but I don’t have that.
