Cannot get online with new sim router

Yes. Actually, my suspicion is that the issue might lie with the xbox account authentication.

I have removed one of your posts and edited another to remove the WAN IP.

Thank you. I am learning fast here.

You’re right, of course. I was puzzled by the 148.x address, but wasn’t thinking clearly. 10.x is indeed an internal address range.

I’m running out of things to check unfortunately. It’s a punt, but you could try cabling your computer to the router, rather than use wireless, but that’s a total guess at this point. If you do, ensure the wireless is disabled to ensure it doesn’t try to use that connection instead of the wired one.

You could also try tethering your computer to a mobile phone, if yours allows it, bypassing your ISP entirely for the purposes of a test only. If it’s an iPhone, its called ā€œHotspotā€, and turns your phone into an access point, and you computer would connect to the SSID ā€œiPhoneā€, and it would go out to the Internet over the cellular connection.

Sadly, my only connection is wifi. But repeating what I said before, I get the same symptoms when I use my mobile hotspot, and therefore bypassing my router completely.

So, anyone want to buy a yoke and throttle???!!!

Let’s not go that route just yet. :frowning:

Sorry, I must have missed that point about the mobile hotspot test. So the issue does seem to be on the computer itself, rather than your connection…

The only times I’ve had issues like you describe, along with a related issue of not being able to access the Marketplace are:

  1. Xbox Live login issue. Logging out, and back in again tends to solve that.
  2. Loss of MSFS digital license. Solved by doing step 1.
  3. Having the wrong version of the sim. For some reason I had one instance where the sim launched but failed to launch the sim update process. No online functionality worked at all, not even the Marketplace. I had to force an update of the sim from the Xbox Companion app, that predated the XBox app, and once the sim was updated, all online functionality was restored.

How did you buy the sim, MS Store or Steam?

Also, do you have access to another computer, even temporarily. It’s a big ask, but you could try installing a second copy on another machine, and see if the issue follows to the new computer.

OK. The yoke and throttle are no longer for sale!

Your point 3 above was a clue. I deleted the app and re-installed. Luckily the bulk of the files (community files) were installed on a different drive and didn’t nee reloading.

So, for now at least, I have a fully working flight sim.

THANK YOU ALL for your help. I took a while (I’ve been at this problem since 2pm yesterday) but we got there in the end. Cheers.

Fantastic news! Really good to hear.

I’d always recommend installing the sim to a non-default location.

Oh wow.I never would have guessed that a reinstall would solve the online issues. Glad you got it solved!

I spoke too soon. MSFS ran with full online service for a couple of hours. When I came back to it later it was offline again.

I have started a new topic, trying to focus the issue on the Authenication Service.

I have run the Archer 600 on a 4G+ (EE) connection for the last 2 yrs without issue, solid connection and reliably, although variable, good speeds. I do find the shifting IP Address something of a pain but it doesn’t seem to cause real problems.

The only time that I have had the problem that you seem to be suffering I resolved it by turning ON Multiplayer. Before I had the problem I had Multiplayer turned off (for about 18mths) without issue and I have no idea what changed to cause the problem but turning ON Multiplayer resolved it for me. When I, experimentally, turned Multiplayer OFF I was Offline again and restoring it to ON reconnected me.

That’s so weird.

Thanks Albatross. Because I have a clean windows install and a clean MSFS install, I am still at the loading stage of MSFS.
I have loaded the initial starter program, and am stuck at the start of the big download. Seconds after I click to start this download, the dreaded warning comes up and stops everything dead.
So I am a long way from getting to the button select ā€˜multiplayer’.

You say you that changing ip addresses causes you problems - please could you say how this shows up, what issues it causes, and how you resolve them.

It’s reassuring that you say that the MR600 works. Do you think there is any possible difference in operation between EE and talkmobile (Vodafone) which could cause my issue.

Perhaps if I open up this question further - is there anything which goes on specifically with MSFS with regard to authentication which might lock me out, even though I can get get online access to other Xbox games (and here I am only referring to Solitaire, which I loaded as a free game to see whether I could connect)?

With regard to the variable IP Address the only problem in the sim is that of latency. I am in North West Wales and I can have an IP Address that locates in SE London (Croydon usually), North Yorkshire or it could be as close as Shrewsbury. The difference in ping can be a factor of 3 ie 40ms with the address in Shrewsbury to 120ms in Croydon or more. It doesn’t have a major impact but it is noticeable if I’m running all settings on Ultra.

I don’t know whether there are differences between the EE or Vodafone 4G networks. I’m on EE because there are 3 masts in range here, varying between 800 and 1500m away; there is only one Vodafone mast which is 1800m.

I will have to have a think and do a bit of digging to see if I can offer any other thoughts. I have just recently completed a complete Windows and MSFS reinstall myself so I will dive back into the notes I took during that process. If I come up with anything I will come back.

My average latency is around 35ms, so I am happy there.

Do you have the MR600 set up as default, or have you changed any settings on the router? Have you set up any port-forwarding? Do you use the Google dns settings of 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 or have you left those settings unfilled?

Everything on the router is default.

@ nikkim99: At this point, Since your installation is failing, I’d suggest opening up a ticket with the Zendesk, if you have not already done so.
