Cannot get past Main Menu on startup

Lately, within the last month, I have been having a problem getting a flight started. When I start the sim it loads up just fine up to the main menu. I choose a depart airport and hit the fly button. It starts loading my flight and when the progress line gets to a little past the 1/3 point it stops and the only way I can proceed is to do CTRL-Alt-Del to open the Task Manager and end the flight simulator. Then start again. Tonight I had to do this 4 times before I got a flight started. The progress line always stops at the same point. The event viewer shows a warning that says “Disk 5 has been surprise removed”. I have seen information on Google that says this has something to do with X Box and virtual drives. I am not using X Box, I am on PC. This is a random thing, sometimes doesn’t happen for days then it might take one, two, three or four tries to get a flight started. Anyone have any ideas about this?

MSFS has a checklist for this issue:

I’m going to go through this checklist tonight. Thanks for the info.

I went through the check list as far as turning my sim back to the vanilla state. I may have been missing the Xbox console. I probably thought that if I was using a PC that I shouldn’t have the Xbox installed. Anyway I have started 4 flights since then and have not had any issues with freezing during loading. This is no gaurantee that I have the problem solved because even when I was having the issue I could sometimes go for several days without a hangup. I’m hoping I’m good now.

Last night I had a freeze exactly like the ones previously. In my second attempt I got loaded but this time I didn’t change the time but I did select a parking space instead of the assigned runway. I have notice this before that if I just hit the Fly button and don’t change anything there’s a better chance that I will get loaded. Trying a couple of flights tonight we’ll see.
