Cannot hear ATC instructions and other aircraft suddenly while AI copilot still responds

I don’t recall if I have ever switched to offline when it has happened. The offline voices are so ridiculous I prefer the silence. : )

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?

yes
Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:

randomly after a few hours, no more atc voice can be heard and no messages from atc are displayed, but you can still reply or the copilot reacts to atc. sometimes it will start working again. If not you have to restart MSFS 2020. reload a flight or starting a new one does not fix missing atc voice and missing atc messages.

Using Azure, I sometimes have the same experience as @AndyMueller1660 above.

This problem has not been fixed as of the 8/26 update. At some random point during some flights the ATC (but not copilot) voice and text disappear. In other words, you can only see and hear the replies from the copilot to ATC, not the ATC communication they are responding to. Just to be clear, it has nothing to do with changing volume settings on the radios or tuning the radios - I have not touched those.
I checked to see if this had anything to do with time acceleration, but it does not. Also stopped all syncing of my drive to backup/cloud, to make sure it was not a result of MSFS being unable to access a file, but that also did not solve it. It SEEMS (but I will have to have it happen a few more times before I’m sure) that the ATC voice/text drops out right after a frequency change. Once ATC drops out it never seems to come back until you start another flight, i.e. the problem does not fix itself with another frequency change.
I have only used Azure so cannot confirm that the problem does not happen with offline voice.

I’ve noticed this happening at random times too for me. Flew DEN-LGA in the PMDG 737-700 without issue. Then LGA-ORD in the FBW A320. No issue. Now on ORD-IAD and I lost coms after getting to cruise altitude. However, I usually turn on the co-pilot to handle ATC. Not sure why it happens. I’ve tried switching to COM2 transmit on the selector panel and using the COM2 tab, but no joy. And switching back. And turning ATC on and off. It seems ATC can get a broken link in the flight plan chain and then doesn’t want to talk again.

Yes. It seems to happen randomly. Sometimes it happens in the air, sometimes it happens even before I’m pushed away from the gate. Other times the issue does not occur. There seems to be no specific cause.

As OP says ATC voice (and text) disappears. If it were not for the co-pilot responding to these silent instructions I would never have known ATC was talking to me.

A small update:
After completely losing ATC and getting to the IAF while still at FL310, I decided to squawk 7600, spiral down in a hold, then manually switched to the Potomac approach frequency. I then had the option to cancel IFR. Still no voices, but then I at least had the option to select the closest airport, which was Dulles. At that point, I could select the tower frequency through the ATC menu, and sure enough, I could request a full stop landing and the tower started talking again, giving my clearance. Landed, and then lost ATC again when switching over to ground. All was on COM1 and no co-pilot handling ATC at that point.

Very innovative CuzDawg. Nice aviating.

I think I should note that in SU11 Beta when I encounter this issue the voice can not be heard, but messages are visible in the ATC panel.

Same and sometimes I lose my pilot assist voice sometimes all voices disappear

Interesting. I wonder if the ‘silent’ messages now being included in the ATC panel indicates there’s at least a partial fix for this issue.

I can’t believe this BUG still exists even after the “40-anniversary edition” update; the ATC works fine at first, then after about 10 to 20 mins, all I hear is pilot flying voice and I see ATC but I don’t hear it so consequently ATC gets angry and cancels my IFR plan. I also notice it seems to happen especially if I have tuned in ATIS to get the current conditions and I also notice because I have speech to text on that the ATIS flashes as if trying to play but stops and starts it’s REALLY getting on my nerves.

I just started having this issue. It has been fine up until the 40th update. After the update, I now have this issue…

Same here on series x.

Because not enough votes to put pressure on Asobo to do something. Hundreds more comments here than votes. People just come here and complain but don’t vote

There are way more votes for force feedback for joysticks!

The system itself is just fail by design for bugs. If you ask me. Voting is fine for features but never for bug priorization.
