Hello all.
Just having some problems trying to reduce or limit the FPS to reduce the stuttering
I am reaching about 65-71 FPS with DLSS quality but having a lot of lag and stutters so I would like to limit to 30 fps
I am using Pico4 headset.
Virtual desktop and SteamVR
Nvidia RTX 3070 OC
On Nvidia conteol panel inside MFS application I set FPS limit to 30.
But when I am inside the game playing in VR steamVR shows always between 50-60-70 fps with stutters .
How can I set a maximum FPS and limit them? Seems that Nvidia setting doesn’t work or cannot limit the frames.
Any idea why?
Thanks
Limiting FPS in NVCP has never worked for me either!
Get Rivatuner, it’s rock solid. Does the Pico4 run at 90hz? If yes, definitely cap at 45fps.
Basically always try to cap at exactly half the refresh rate, assuming you can’t reach that rate of course.
45fps feels amazingly smooth on the G2. Much more so than 30 or even 50. It’s literally day and night.
Thanks, yes. Pico can be 72 Hz or 90hz.
I will try to do half of 72. But tried to cap to 30fps and even doesn’t work.
Will try less…
I would recommend aiming for 45, should be very doable with DLSS.
And like I said, get Rivatuner to lock,it works great.
Capping the FPS in nvidia control panel (NCP) works for me with my Quest 2. My headset is set at 80Hz.
I usually change two values for MSFS in NCP:
- Max background frame rate = 40
- Max frame rate = 40
I usually have to add the simulator to the program list whenever I install new nvidia drivers.
Perhaps you could temporarily try using the global NCP setting instead, just to see if it actually caps your FPS. If it works, perhaps it’s a game profile issue in NCP. Otherwise, Rivatuner should do the trick.
Cheers,
Thanks both!!
Will try asap
I spent some hours before your recommendations and did not realise both solutions
Very appreciated
Will let you know
Does locking in NVCP work for you instantly or does it require a restart of the sim?
Its never worked for me instantly and Ive never tried restarting.
You have to restart the sim.
For me it was a set once and forget. My headset runs at 80Hz and I’ll never get close to that in terms of FPS with my current graphics card so I just set my upper limit to 40 and left it at that.
