Can't even get passed the first step in the first flying lesson

Thought I would give the flying lessons a go but as the topic suggests, I can’t even manage to get passed the first objective in the first lesson…to look out the windows to witness the lovely day.

I use the hat switch on my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro looking out the windows, both left and right. I’ve even panned around 360 degress but no matter what I try, the flight instructor goes on telling me to look out the windows.

Quite annoying…

Shoot - its been a while - does she tell you to use the Joystick buttons, or the keyboard commands? What I was wondering if they are looking for specific commands, which may be multi-mapped in the Control set-ups, or something similar, so you woul dhave to use the keys she (the objective) says?(?)

Try the “S” or “E” keys.

I had the same issue. I got annoyed and gave up and there ended my flight training.

Thanks for the tips guys!

Maybe you’re right you need to use keyboard shortcuts rather than the hat switch on the joystick. I’ll play around with it a bit.

I think there is bug on this first lesson.
I throw the flight instructor out of right window to “witness the lovely day” and started flying.

:joy:

Actually, the same thought crossed my mind a couple of times by now!

Here is temporary fix, this is only if you want to pass first training (get it marked).

Please note, that all other training seems work fine. just first one does not. (hopefully it will get fixed some point, its a little shame that its FIRST tutorial for new pilots that does NOT WORK)

Workaround:
Go to your SIM download folder: ( I have Steam version, so it may be a little different)
For me, its here:
%appdata%\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages\Official\Steam\asobo-flight-tutorials-basiccontrols\Missions\Asobo\Tutorials\BasicControls

There you will see two files we need to rename.
First, rename “BasicControls.spb” to “Original BasicControls.spb”
Then “BasicControls_edition.spb” to “BasicControls.spb”

After that, you will be able to finish tutorial 1. (with Women this time)

Note, its good idea to rename files back. That will ensure there is no problem after patches.

Thanks buddy, very kind of you and maybe I try what you suggest even when this isn’t something that kept me sleepless.

I do agree though it’s quite bad (and close to embarrassing) how such a simple kind of issue in the very first lesson as you mention slipped through before RTM. Especially considering a big goal for this version of MSFS has been to attract just the group that will probably want to use these training sessions, people new to flight simulation.

I resolved the issue by using the ribbon on top. Last icon Custom Toolbar and enable objectives.
Every action is « validated » by a green text. Without this on screen, nothing seems to happen.

I had the same thing while trying to look around using the hat-switch. Once I used ctrl + left arrow and ctrl + right arrow it picked up on what I was doing.

I noticed in another training that, when I go to the controls menu and select my joystick from the top bar (keyboard was highlighted) the commands in flight training adapted to the ones on my joystick.

It’s definitely a controls assigning issue and it’s very easy to work around it.
