Can't even start MSFS on Steam any more?

I’ve been running all my games through Steam for a decade or more, and I never knew there was such a cache. Good to know.

That’s great to hear! Can you confirm whether it was the Steam download, the shader or the browser cache you had to clear?

Nick, I am glad to hear you got it sorted. I noticed that you mentioned your Zendesk ticket. Also glad that you not only reported the fail but also updated them with your fix.

I must ask, however, if you also contacted Steam? It is entirely possible that this was a Steam bug and not a MSFS bug. It may be a good idea to give them a ‘heads up’ as well.

It was the Steam cache from Settings > Downloads > Clear Download Cache

Been using Steam for all my games since its launch in 2003 and I didn’t know this either. You learn something new every day, it seems.

I’m not sure which specific cache it was but whatever is in the Steam cache altogether.

I have a theory, I realized all my steam cache data was being saved in my C drive, which is my smallest SSD … I wondered what was taking up so much space. At the time I had this issue going on I was at 103 of 112gb utilization. I wonder if there simply wasnt enough space on the drive to fetch, write, and overwrite on the cache. I’ve since moved it to a different SSD and am having better luck. I swear I think I’m even getting better performance…

What?? Who said to re-install your “whole laptop”??? I said to uninstall/reinstall Microsoft Flight Simulator. If a piece of software isn’t working, re-install it. We’ve been doing this since PC software came on magnetic cassette tapes. It works about 90% of the time.

Sometimes reinstalling the whole computer “might” help, since it clears up all the junk files that may have caused it. If the root cause is outside of the MSFS, then uninstalling and reinstalling the entire MSFS won’t help. At least by clearing up the entire PC and fresh install windows and then MSFS, you can eliminate the possibility of OS or MSFS and may look to hardware or driver issues.
