Can't get 787 to full speed on Autopilot - help a noob lol

So I’m new to airliner’s and such. I’m having an issue where with Autopilot on I can’t get to full cruise speed. I can get it to the altitude I set and such, say 36,000 feet, and NAV is all good but the speed stays at 315 knots even if I increase. Trying to set 488 knots but it won’t budge. I also notice the overspeed starts at 360 knots or so which confuses me as the cruise speed at cruise altitude should be 488 knots no? Really sorry for the noob questions, but any help would be greatly appreciated!

No need to be sorry.
That’s a common source of confusion.

488 is TAS, true airspeed, which is much higher than the speed on the speed tape, which is IAS, indicated airspeed.

You should also switch to Mach instead of IAS on console.
