Can't get beyond press any key

I’m proud (or so I thought) owner of FS 2020 Deluxe.

Just once I got beyond “Press any key” and the program crashed to the desktop right after that. Every other time it crashes after 5-7 minutes after I press any key.

I have Dell with Intel i7, 16 GB RAM, 800 GB available space on my drive, fast internet.

I am beyond frustration, and need help.
Is there any place I can get it?

I wish I could be of more help, but a patch is said to be right around the corner. People with install, loading, and crash problems are being asked to completely uninstall, then download and re-install the game WHEN THE PATCH IS RELEASED. Emphasis mine to avoid confusing people. Good luck!

Thanks!

I had that problem once, turned out I was not signed into microsoft account.

Thanks, but I am. Did check.

They need to get rid of the Press Any Key screen/feature. Serves absolutely no useful purpose, and sometimes pressing any key does absolutely nothing.

I got stuck in a similar loop after my sim crashed while flying. After that when I tried to start it I got you press any key and it did nothing, until it went in a loop and asked me to press any key again (so no crash to desktop but problem launching game).
I fixed it by going to add and remove programs, finding Microsoft flight simulator, click on it and choose repair. After that it worked fine. I wonder if it left some files locked that it needed when it crashed and the repair reset these.

A few things, that helped other and/or me:

  1. Did you install mods (something in the Community folder)? if so, this might be picked up by Defender and stops your pc from connecting to Microsoft Store and keeps you in this loop. Set the community folder as an exception for Windows Defender and it works again.
  2. Are you able to open Microsoft Store? If the first time you open it (without pressing Retry) and you get a page telling you “Something went wrong”, then Microsoft Store is having issued and/or your pc is having problems with it. There are numerous examples on how this might be fixed.
  3. Download the app “Xbox (beta)” from the Microsoft Store and login. That fixed the issue for a lot of people.

If none of these help, than you have a new problem I am unaware of.

Did you try the steps in the known issues list?

I have also tried double-clicking LMB and it works for me, every time, without having to press a key…I should have mentioned this earlier…

Thank you all. Great support!

NOTHING WORKS!

I checked the Event Viewer after crash, and this is what I’ve got:

Faulting application name: FlightSimulator.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5f2ed221

All of this is way above my paygrade.
But maybe somebody can make sense out of it.

Thank you guys!

By “nothing” do you mean you did all the steps outlined in https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015955380-Stuck-on-Press-a-key-to-continue- ?

A lot of people don’t seem to bother looking at the known issues and fixes so it would save everyone a lot of time if you mentioned you did it first so we know you’re a special case. Or, if you didn’t then if you at least try the known fixes first.

Sirob, did you try double-clicking your left mouse button with the cursor near the middle of the screen?

Yes, I did…

Thanks. Yes I did all of them, step by step.

What are your full system specs… graphics card for example.
Do you have the 2004 version on Win10?
Are all your drivers up to date?

Regards
Steve

I’m in the same boat. been frustrated no end with the limited (non existent) public updates on when the update will actually be released. I did get a response via email regarding a fault I logged on the 24th August, so there’s that.

Thanks G7RTA!

It will have nothing to do with your pc or gfx card that’s a fact. The problem is with the Microsoft flight sim servers being overloaded. I have exact same issue. I did complete download and game worked but crashed. I uninstalled it. Re installed Windows, reinstalled ms store. Xbox beta and ran all the troubleshooting steps.

I know it’s their issue as I can download, install and play all other games on the game pass.

They probably knew this would happen so should have had it squared away before release.

Oh cool we get to play 8 hour reinstall BINGO. Will it fix my particular CTD or just be another exercise in futility like the last 4 times I’ve reinstalled.
