Whenever I try to launch MSFS it gets stuck on the “Checking for updates” screen and can’t get past it.
Troubleshooting steps I’ve taken so far:
Reset my network
Run the game as admin
Disabled firewall
Uninstalled / reinstalled MS’s gaming service
moved community folder
restarted the PC a few times.
None of those seem to work, anyone have any ideas?
Try Quad9 or CloudFlare dns service please.

Same here, there is literally a 7-minute hang on the “checking for updates” screen. This is ridiculous and enough to drive me back to other flight sims that load in a few seconds. Luckily I haven’t purchased FS2020 yet, still trying it out on my XBOX Live for PC subscription. At this rate, I will NEVER buy it. Also still waiting in vain for a one-click fly-by view
I have suffered this since spring more or less and I´m litteraly fed. Unfortunatelly it´s completely random and online related as it happens also on a 100% clean install. It happens since SU8 if I´m not wrong. SU10 appeared to be the best one but now it´s here again with SU11. From time to time an update of either gaming services or Xbox app solves the issue but also some other updates introduce it again. This is a stupid waiting loop that should not be endless. Game just needs few seconds to detect a new update. It has no sense that it does not exit from loop if none is detected after few seconds as well.

I have been debugging this since Friday and I have a solution that worked based on what a moderator had said to someone else about a potential conflict. If I delete the nordic update (SU5), I can get past the load screen with no CTD. I have nothing in my community folder and plenty of disk space. The installing of that one pack causes me to not be able to get through the load screen without a CTD. In this video, I start with it uninstalled. I install it, suffer a crash at completion, suffer at CTD when I relaunch during load, and then I delete the relevant package files in the Official directory and voila it launches fine for me. This has worked time and again the past 2 days for me as I have tried to see if there is any other contributor. I have a bug reported here if you want to up-vote it and then try this for yourself.
no joy here, as i just done a complete re-install, no packages, first load get CTD still (gets through update screen but dies on the loading bar screen @60%
Just had another user say he hit the same thing but with the Italy update. Best of luck with your troubleshooting.
FYI for anyone still struggling, after talking to zendesk, i opted into beta and that resolved my startup issue, although i was getting ctd on load screen, NOT update screen…
I did MFS lay down for a half year because there where many troubles, CTD’s etc etc.
Now im playing it and there are again troubles.
It keeps checking for updates.
This simulator is a shame for so much money it cost.
The devs must be shaming thereselfs.
Is it so hard?
Take a look at the devs from another flight sim.
They can do the job!
