I tune to the correct VOR [I am using the multifunction [MFD] and activate the vor1 but it doesn’t work.
I have had no trouble using VORs in past sims. So where am I going wrong?
Range? Are you within the transmitter range?
I’ve had similar issues myself, but that was a while ago and I don’t know if things have changed since. I’ll have another go shortly. I usually fly up the west coast of Wales using Cardiff, St Athan, Swansea, Pembrey and Haverfordwest as a standard test flight route and the NDBs never worked in NAV mode - only when I switch to GPS.
I heard that many are being deactivated with the advent of glass cockpits - maybe these have been. A real shame that, in any case.
Perhaps you can expand a little so we can help.
What aircraft, what distance and altitude/relative height from the VOR and what nav mode is your CDI/needle set to display?
Have you checked Little Navmap or other planning resources to see if the VOR is current and what its range is?
I have flown over the VOR and a twenty miles radius of the VOR at diferant altitudes from under a 1000 Ft and higher.
I have tried several VORs including ones that I used regularly in older Flight sims.
I am wondering if there is something I am missing when tuning/activating the nav radio or something. I am familiar with using the navigation aid.
I am setting the CDI needle to the VOR1 and the VOR2 but nether becomes active.
I fly the Beach Barron.
Depart KSAN and see if you can pick up MZB on 117.80.
You might want to double check whether the VOR’s you’re using are in fact still active, or may have been changed to DME-only, or just TACAN.

I agree with the post by Maki152, however you could also just place your aircraft in a parking spot at KPRB and tune to 114.3.
You don’t even need to be in the air, as the VOR is right in the center of the airfield and will be picked up by the radio while the aircraft is still on the ground.
I have just booted up the Flight Sim again. I tuned to the VOR at Biggin Hill 115.10 and the VOR became active immediately.
I have no idea why I was having this trouble? Maybe as Habu2u2 said, the VORs have become inactive. I originally tried the VOR at StMawgen 112.60. were I often fly from.
Anyway, thanks for all your suggestions, it looks like Its all O.K. now.
There is no VOR at St Mawgan /Newquay (EGHQ), only an NDB. If there used to be a VOR, it has apparently been decommissioned.
Like others have mentioned, make sure you are in range of the VOR, as well as there are no obstructions for the line of sight to the VOR. It also won’t hurt to just double check and make sure you selected the correct bearing/radial for the VOR.
Also ensure that your CDI is selected to VOR and not GPS. Lastly, check and make sure that the VOR you are using are currently active. A lot of VOR are slowly being decommissioned and phased out. The FAA plans on leaving a select few as backup just in case for the near future.
My charts are old. The VOR at St Mawgan was one I have used for many years with past versions of MSFS.
So I am now fully aware that ‘some’ VORs are no longer in use and that was my problem.
Again, thanks for all your helpful comments.
