Can't open Microsoft Flight simulator 2020 can't open

When I try to open the Microsoft flight simulator 2020 after the latest update 4 (on 2021.05.25) I get an error message “Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item.” (even after trying to open with administrator permissions0. But when I run the troubleshooting for compatibility it opens. But again I have to do this every time. Can anyone tell me what is the issue here, please?

Same here! Was working fine earlier today.

One thing you can do until we figure out what to do to start the sim normally. you can go to the Flight simulator .exe and right-click on the exe file → click on the troubleshoot compatibility–>then click test the program. it will open. But I have to do this every time when I open the sim.

Yes I also could open it via the X box console companion app. thanks for the tip

i had that problem once, it was a network issue, it resolved itself, could be server overload. try to shut down pc and restart and check, its probably just a hiccup

Just updated Flightsim at the store where I was directed now Flightsim will not load. Been using it since Sept. Is this the best they can do. Last month it kept asking me to install disks. I have been using Flightsim since version 1. They have had 17 years to get this one right,

Try unloading your conmunity folder and adding back one by one. Most likley a conflict with the new update.
Remove from community folder until developer releases a new version

Are you all trying to run it as admin? That creates problems; do not run as administrator.

Can you please refresh me on where the .exe file is kept on a microsoft store downloaded app.
Kev

you’re right :slightly_smiling_face:

By default
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_1.16.2.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe

Even without community folder removed, the issue persists.

Here you go

Try

In windows seacrh bar type
powershell

right click on powershell and select run as administrator

Copy/paste to powershell window

Add-MpPreference -ExclusionProcess "flightsimulator.exe"

press enter

Mid way through complete flatten of comp and external drive , clean as it gets not a fun game to play only once will I do this, due to exactly same reason after Microsoft update sim just went to black start up then CTD! Good luck hope you find a fix.
