Hi guys, I have a problem with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. So the issue is that I cant pass 25fps on low, medium, high, or ultra settings, so basically on every setting I cant pass 25fps which is strange. I tried to reinstall the game, reinstall GPU drivers, oc GPU, CPU, and ram but nothing works. I even reinstall the entire Windows10. I followed a lot of steps on these forum sites for making performance better but still no results. I tried to contact the dev team and they gave me the same tips they wrote on the site. My pc specs are AMD Ryzen 5 2600x, Msi RTX 2060 super, 16Gb ram (there is a bottleneck of 8% (I asked Nvidia and AMD support about bottleneck and they said isn’t big deal because it is only 8%) ). Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
I remember seeing elsewhere that the older 2nd-gen Ryzen CPUs are a lot slower on MSFS than newer AMD CPUs. Did you check the fps meter in developer mode to see whether you’re limited on the GPU or on the CPU main thread?
- go to settings
- turn on developer mode
- “apply and save”
- “resume”
- select options → display fps
- look at the meter in the upper right corner of the screen which will tell you the relative time spent in milliseconds on the main thread, render thread, a couple other threads, and the GPU, and will tell you which of them is limiting your frame rate.
Also check the resolution you’re running at.
It says Limited by MainThread. What does that mean?
That means your CPU takes longer to process the simulation each frame than your GPU does. You can make it faster in one of two ways:
- reduce the amount of work on the CPU (sometimes changing graphics settings can reduce CPU work as well as GPU work)
- get a faster CPU
Ok, do u have any recommendation for the cpu?
I have a Ryzen 3700X which gives me in the range of 25-45 fps along with my very old soon-to-be-upgraded GPU, but I’ve heard that the new 5000-series CPUs are significantly faster at MSFS thanks to improvements in the number of instructions that can be performed per clock tick (IPC).
If you’re going to invest in a new rig, get the newer one.
Ok, thanks for the information
I have the same 2600x cpu with a 2070 GPU and its running pretty smooth around 40-50 fps. But indeed I had to reduce the cpu load by deactivating multiplayer, AI Traffic and real life traffic. I also reduced all ground traffic sliders to 25%.
edit: and please turn off v-sync
Indeed, more than 25 should be doable. I couldn’t quite break ~32 with my Ryzen 1700 in the A320, nor about 45 in the TBM, but in lighter aircraft like the Cessna 152 I could get 50-55 or so without traffic.
With a Ryzen 5800X i can now get just over 60 in the A320 and ~80 in lighter planes (still without traffic though).
