It does turn, but the turn radius is very large, even at 35 knots. I have no issues with any other plane. I know that it depends on many factors, such as weight, speed, etc… but the turn large turn radius I am experiencing just can’t be right. I am applying the rudders and I can see the control surface moving sharply in external view. What am I doing wrong or is the 787 bugged?
known problem for 787b.
remomend to turn below 10kt and dont apply full rudder
yep, correct. Slow down and ease into the turn. If you jam on full steering lock the plane will just keep sliding forward (it’s a heavy beast).
Okay. So I just tested what you guys recommended and it works! Thanks.
So for some reason, when I apply full rudder, it doesn’t turn as well as half rudder. It also turns sharper at 10 knots.
So is this how the real 787 moves on the ground or is this a bug in MSFS?
Can’t attest to how accurate it is, but maybe make a comparison to a car on a wet road. If you were technically able to instantly go to full lock steering, you car would most likely slide straight on as well.
Aircraft are heavy, and so it sort of makes sense.
Not a pilot in command though, so I could be entirely wrong.
Taxi at 35kts? Is that even allowed?
only uphill…
Try using diffrential braking and the throttle on the opositte side of the turn. Also remember that wide body jets don’t look moving as fast as they really are. I retired before the 787, 747 had a body steering that you’d activate for taxi and deactivate on the runway. On the sim I use an old joy stick as the tiller for taxi just like the airplane and transit to the rudder at 80kts like in real life. No more drifting off the centerline.
Thank you. What is differential breaking and how can I use it in the sim?
It is when you only brake in one side of the plane. Afaik numpad * is left and numpad - is right.
It is a known bug, and has been reported many times. As stated, differential breaking and throttle on opposite side to enhance turn. I sometimes move my JS to the direction I want to turn many times, this seems to get the nose wheel sharper sometimes. This bug alone is keeping me from enjoying the sim more than I do, and it’s only this plane. Works fine in all the others, well not the C172 last time I flew it.
