Hi All and Happy Holidays!
Last couple of days I’ve been struggling with a new and unexpected issue.
I typically fly the Longitude, CJ4 and 787. Been flying with FS since the mid 80’s and with MSFS since it was first released. For the past 8-10 months it’s been fantastic and I completes an around-the-world trip in the CJ4. All was well, until…
This week I suddenly couldn’t taxi in the Longitue without it serving all over the taxiway. And taking off was a nightmare. It dives to the left, I have to fight to control it but it’s not tolerable.
The CJ4 isn’t much better nor is the 787.
I am fully up to date with all updates. I emptied my community folder and no improvement. I did have the Longitude mod and tried reinstalling that with no help.
I’m using Thrustmaster rudder pedals and Honeycomb yoke. Have tried a variety of configurations for both those devices within the sim under Contol Options.
At my wits end, can’t for the life of me understand what could suddenly go so wrong and am so bummed. I love flying! And now I’m grounded.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Did you check what flight mode is selected in the menu? Modern or Legacy? From update to update it changes somehow without letting us know about this.
Or rudder assistance / auto rudder having enabed itself?
I did and it’s Modern. Can’t remember what it’s supposed to be now.
I’ve always used rudder assistance to make heading straight down the runway a little easier. It’s still set as such. Thanks!
Modern is OK. Try to switch it to Legacy, save, and then select Modern again (the last thing to try :))) ). Also… did you check AI assistance options, like AI pilot and so on in the both menus - on the screen under the upper triangle and in the Options Menu under Assistance options?
I checked it out but don’t think that’s it. Thanks for the suggestion though.
All set with the AI assistance stuff but I’ll give the Modern/Legacy switch a try. But not right now, almost time for dinner!
Topic moved into #community:general-discussion-feedback for assistance. Title altered to reflect issue.
I have the same problem from time to time. My solution, go to Options/Control options and your rudder profile and do a new “Sensitivity”. Don’t edit anything, just go trough all axes 0 to 100 and then Done.
Well, as a veteran simmer, looks like you are going to have to do some good ole elimination testing as the causes could be many and varied.
I would try starting with a non modded stable SEP like the 152, spawn on the runway and set preset weather to clear, no windand no AI pilot assistance with your normal peripheral and then do a no input take-off roll. Observe, then repeat altering one variable at a time:
- controller profile ( default/custom)
- no peripherals plugged in: then add one at a time ( if you recently added say an Xbox controller to fly the drone camera, this might cause issues).
- move to Twin engine piston, then CJ4 to see it it’s differential thrust issue.
- alter weather to introduce crosswind. - the ground physics model has known issues that impact taxi and t/o roll.
I mean, it sounds like a peripheral profile or driver bug, but you just need to eliminate weathervaning and all the rest of the possible causes.

Update. Looking at the yoke (in the sim, not my hardware). It’s moving slightly back and forth on its own. If I pull it all the way back with my Honeycomb, in the sim it recenters. This has happened to me before and for the life of me I can’t remember how I fixed it. I thought it was just a matter of unplugging and plugging back in but that didn’t do it.
Aaaargh.
I googled this problem but didn’t find much help there.
Eliminate by setting deadzones?
Tried that to no avail. Also checked other aircraft and they all have same issue.
And without your alpha plugged in too? I mean if it’s doing it regardless of the peripheral then it has to be some specific code bug perhaps unique to your in (like the intermittent rudder bug a small number of users are experiencing)
Try the SU7 update.
Failing that… reinstall.
I was fully updated but just noticed that I have an AFC_Bridge update in the queue.
And I checked what it was doing with the yoke unplugged and it was still moving on it’s own. Exited the game, restarted the PC (with the yoke still unplugged), restarted MSFS and it’s still doing it.
I really hate to have to reinstall. Have never done that and just think of all those settings I’ve spent so much time configuring.
And when I reinstall will I lose my flight hours? That’s already happened once (MS’s fault, not mine!)
Just something to investigate, I have the Alpha Flight Controller and was experiencing the same issues with the twitchy center posit.
Spent about a month tearing my hair our trying to calibrate and recalibrate. Finally popped the cover of the unit and checked all of the connections. Eventually found one (sorry, cant remember which) that appeared to be ever-so-slightly lose. Gave it a little nudge and bingo. I have not had the issues since and not even had to recalibrate since finding the problem.
Just relaying some tips, hope you can get it sorted out.
Appreciate it but don’t think it’s that. When the yoke is unplugged from the PC, the problem still exists.
Looking at the external view of the plane I can see the elevators going up and down on their own.
You won’t lose hours or controller settings as they are all stored with your user profile in the cloud. But agree it should be option of last resort, but given you are seeing unwanted inputs to the primary control surfaces with no active peripherals then there has to be something serious going on. The original title of your post before the mods changed it was more accurate!
Further thought - it must be related to the AI assist code in some way. Wind might cause the rudder to move on a small GA but not on a 787. And definitely not the aeilerons.
