Lots of posts about the poor flight dynamics of the 172 and 208. I agree 100%.
While waiting for MSFS2024 to be released I stuck my “flight sim toe” in the water with another sim popular with real pilots. Spending time on their forum confirmed that with lots of pics of them in their planes, mostly Cessnas.
I’ve been comparing live weather landings in both sims in the 172 and there is no comparison. The level of difficulty of controlling the 172 landings in MSFS is exponentially higher than the sim these pilots were using. One of the issues is the excessive turbulence which has been documented in other posts. The other is ground stability on landing or lack thereof. The most difficult part of landing the 172 or 208 is the transition from wings to wheels. Even with minor wind turbulence, once on the wheels both planes become extremely unstable. Similar light aircraft in MSFS doesn’t have this issue, so why with these two popular planes is it so bad?
The fact that the 172 and 208 are heavily relied on in Career Mode makes no sense. If Asobo wants this sim to succeed they should make their best planes available in Career Mode not the worst. I’ve all but given up on Career Mode because I hate flying the 172 and 208 on missions so much. At least in free flight I can turn down the turbulence and get performance a little closer to reality with these two planes.
Just had to get this off my chest. Hope Asobo is listening!
