Career mode and realism not up to expectations

I’m not sure what you’re referring to. Who disabled what API?

The SDK was available at launch, I do agree Asobo should have gave every 3rd party developer access to it months in advance like their marketplace partners. The issue for PMDG is they were heavily reliant on C++/WASM. This is a Asobo issue and a big how did they miss this but they didn’t package those tools in the initial versions on the SDK. Due to this error is what is holding back PMDG from releasing their aircraft in 2024. However many other aircraft have received compatibility updates and even enhancements to take advantage of the new sim features.

However launching it for others at launch didn’t really create a problem. If it did, we wouldn’t have Fenix A320 working in 2024 and all of the compatible sceneries we have now.

The streaming model is fine for countering piracy and maximizing revenue through marketplace but is not suited for anyone otherthan Fibre to the Home users. Cable is too unpredictable on bandwith and just forget anyone on a mobile router or with an older type of physical link.
I think the quality control on dev teams was so below what was needed that teams (afraid for their income) said “yes boss, we can” too often. Putting pressure on release dates creates such issues as we have seen in the MAX aircraft as well. Quest3 is another example, they had to send out a zillion updates after release to get somewhere near the promised product. Lucky for them the hardware was ok so they did not get bogged in patch swamp like msfs2024 is now.
They fundament seems wrong, the game storybook (careers) not complete and the code looks like it was not designed to use the cpu/gpu architecture that is specific for gaming platforms. Let them show a good kernel first, using local storage and running on 7800x3d/RTX combo in win11/dx12. Then add capabilities to support things like career, airline management, atc, real traffic etc. Current path seems to try to keep all balls in the air at the same time and that won’t work as a strategy.

Hi, just assign a button to the not existing parking brake (for this helicopter in career mode) , that did the trick for me :wink:Good luck!

tbh, the state it was/is in is shocking for a none early access

You don’t GET flight following, you request it. If you don’t, they won’t follow you. You can ask for a IFR flight plan in flight, i have done it myself a few times. And it will all come together with patches.

Yes, same here + new sound dropouts, even in main menu, I’ll try a fresh install when I’m at home again!!

… it looks the same as the 2020 because it is the same . They did not "create " a new game engine for the 2024 version . But you are wrong about msfs2020 using the decades old fsx engine . Asobo used it’s own ACE game engine (Asobo Conception Engine) , it has nothing to do with the old fsx engine .

I agree, but nevertheless this is serious stuff.
Asobo/MS willingly or unwillingly scammed their customers by selling a product that’s not as advertised and will not be in any short term. Not by any stretch. That is serious.

I agree there are worse things to get angry about in this world. But for some people games are the path for fun and enjoyment.
You want to escape from the harsh reality.
If you get into it with this expectation you will get disappointed and as a result you will maybe get angry beyond what you should get because someone has denied you the escape you were looking for.

That’s your opinion of the said product, to many that don’t have issues they’re happy with the product.

If you feel you’ve been scammed then raise it with your bank for a refund, you do have protection and an avenue to get your money back.

Xplane itself doesn’t not count toward FAA flight time. It’s your whole setup that has to be certified. That included all the hardware you have setup on the sim. This idea that someone at home can just pop-up xplane and rack up some times on their logbook is fantasy. That has never happen nor will it.

Yes but can’t do that irl if the field is IFR. You can call flight service and get your IFR over the phone and call again before departing where they’ll give you a window to be off the ground and contact the next controller. If the airfield is VFR then you can depart and pick up an IFR clearance in the air assuming you can maintain VFR until done.

Why does the sim have me “request” flight following before picking up my IFR in the air. (At untowered airfields) just have an option to call fight service and request on the ground. Then again have an option to call before departure. It’s just some dialog and a button click.

Right. There’s a plugin at an extra charge and a home simulator setup that needs to be inspected and certified by the FAA. What I was trying to get at was that the X-plane software itself is real enough to be used to log simulator hours. So when Microsoft/Asobo says 2024 is the most realistic simulator experience ever, they’re flat out lying.

Complete noob here. And I do mean NOOB. For my purposes and that of my 12 yo son, MSFS24 has been a great introduction to flying. Perhaps when and if I get to the level of the many seasoned users in this community, my opinions will change, but at this point, it is serving me well. I appreciate your thoughtful and well-constructed feedback.

It’s a lot better than it was before, but still far from what it should have been at launch. I don’t think everything is going to be fixed soon. Probably baby steps.

My 108 flying hours 16,600 nm flown and Level 57 in Career Mode say it’s perfectly playable.

I was frustrated for 3 days at launch and have had moments of frustration since. It would have been better described as an ‘early access’ (shrug), but the arm-flailing drama is overstated in my view. :relieved:

I have been quite happily flying in it since a couple of days after the release …and loving it!
Not getting any CTD, frame rates seem good (certainly as good as 2020) and the scenery is better!
Its certainly playable.

I can’t comment on changes to the career mode as I haven’t tried it yet, but my free flight experience in 3rd party helicopters has seen some improvements with the new patch. I’d have to say that overall performance improved slightly as well, as I notice a little less stuttering when panning around the view with TrackIR. I did some VR flying and I noticed that the VR toolbar worked every time that I opened it, where previously it would work maybe 7 out of 10 times. I also didn’t have any issues with the mouse suddenly not interacting with cockpit controls, which was pretty frequent before the patch. Small things, to be sure, but at least I didn’t see any NEW bugs.

Same for me. What annoys me still is that the scenery, although improved since latest patch, is still hit and miss for me. Plus the sim crashing after ending a free flight, and the uncontrollable free look with the mouse on Xbox.

But all in all I enjoy it very much, with 100 flights and 60 hours so far!
