I do disagree with your post. Career mode is fantastic when it works and that’s really the issue here and it’s the cause of this post because I believe folks want to continue to use this mode and have all the bugs resolved.
The elements are pretty simple to understand, the concept is basic. There really isn’t anything to be confused about and yes if you are not sure, a quick YouTube video will sort it out, but it’s basically MSFS with a career wrapper, it’s not rocket science.
It’s the execution of the career mode which leaves a lot to be desired, the bugs like giving a PC-24 a water landing, what’s that all about, holding short on the runway and getting penalised, so many little issues. However I do think the mode is brilliant.
Introduction of wear and tear and cost adds real responsibility and reflection to your actions you simple don’t get in free flight that you want to learn about these systems in free flight first before committing yourself to that career mission.
There’s also one other amazing aspect about career mode is that it gives purpose to flying which some folks struggle with in a product like MSFS and that has to be good for our hobby as it will allow a lot more folks to try this out.
It’s just, I wish it worked withn less issues and bugs.
I agree with your post, plenty of bugs where when you try and land things like brakes fail, I suspect because of people not maintaining the aircraft so its wear and tear, however if this is the case then why does the mechanic say its safe to fly for another 15 hours. I want to sack my mechanic for sure.
I had ATC direct me to runway 20C @changi Singapore, on approach the runway looked unpaved
It was unpaved, grassy and bumby. Stuff the go around because ATC would ding me landing at another runway so i proceeded.
I broke my 737s landing gear and almost alot of other things but stopped safely and the flight ended right there with damaged landing gear.
Next flight out of Changi ATC directs me to depart 20C, this is consistent with previous flight and conditions, this time the runway was paved, but there are serious terrain anomolys at Changi, this runway has elevation spikes and gutters and I departed extravagantly hitting an elevation spike and launching into the sky like a skateboard hitting a ramp.
In the live build (SU2) it seems like the problem was fixed. I made 2 flights on 737 and both times I’ve reached S rating. Even though they added penalty for taxi speeding right upon the landing and for leaving runway while you are still on it, I managed to get S somehow.
But I had only 2 flights after SU2 update. I gave up and waiting for further updates, I can’t play this buggy mess.
I’ve done atleast 50 flights in the 737 career mode had a couple of S ratings. It’s possible, but there are bugs to navigate in terms of taxiing, hold shorts and ATC directions which can easily ding you from S to A flight score
I have multiple Companies and multiple planes of the same type and multiple types in multiple locations.
There is no way for me to know in the manage company page for example (or anywhere else for that matter) the individual locations of the planes of my company.
If you have more than one plane in the same airport location the map does not show all the planes when you click on the plane icon…it only shows one.
Seriously, who designs this stuff? Its really poorly designed. I bet they never actually play the thing they design…because as soon as you do that and have mulitiple companies and planes you would see there is a lack of information.
Sure there is, under the individual aircraft’s management page, top left corner lists the current airport or helipad it is located at. That’s one you can cross off of your list anyway. Cheers
I know about this but would prefer if the world map with the icon could show what plane was near a mission rather than trawling through 80 or more planes in the company hangar. This is useful if you know it’s this plane you want because you can just go straight there. But if it’s the mission you identify first it doesn’t work for me.
They need to give us step ladders so we can remove the engine covers! Probably one of those Rotary drills too so I can drill a tunnel in front of me!
Mission VIP in Career HL68 to OMDB
So it crashed my Pilatus-24 and docked me reputation points… *&^%$!
After Sim Update 2, the career mode is barely playable for me, at least for two planes, the PC-12 and the Beechcraft 350. This seems not to only concern the career mode, in Free Flight this is also happening. I don’t find a lot of clear topics about that on the forum, but it might be known. But clearly things when worst after Sim Update 2.
The things I notice are:
Random crashes or collisions on invisible objects on the taxi/runway. It happened many time that after landing I am reported to have crashed when rolling on the runway to the taxi, or sometime during taxi at takeoff I randomly collide something invisible.
This damages my plane for real, usualy ending with several millions credit repairs (especially landing gears on this two planes).
The insurance won’t work in this case. I have bought the best insurance, but this accident repairs seem not covered by the insurance at all.
I can’t restart the mission, it automatically goes to “failed”, nor I can espace the game before the crash is recorded by the game.
For the moment I went back playing the Cesna 185 & 208B which seems to be not concerned by such bugs, but I 'm loosing motivation on career mode.
I need to play long missions on the 208B (Medevac), which is slow, to get 1M credit, and a single mission with the PC-12 can cost up to 2.5M for fixing my invisible collision damages, with random collisions on 50% of the missions.
Am I the only one to suffer this ?
BTW does anyone have any tutorial for using the autopilot in the Beechraft 350 ? I can’t set the CDI to GPS, only LOC1 and LOC2.
Dude…THANK YOU!
I did not see that.
I would suggest though that it should be more prominent for dummies like me to find LoL.
Amazing how I did not see that.
and yea…that takes that off the list. Hopefully the will fix the issue with the map only showing one plane.
The thing that really annoys me is the way missions are generated, particularly private charter and other VIP missions. Either there are simply none in areas where you can imagine there being a lot of desire for such flights. Or they are all flying to a couple of airports, so there is no interest in doing them. Or for some reason only seem to want to fly to mountains.
I do not think it is hard to make it so missions generate in a procedural way. Then you can just make loads of them. The way you choose them should be different too. More like a career mode. You get offers based on your reputation. Initially you fly to and from your base, and as you progress you get offers from further away. Split the map into regions, and you can have a HQ in different regions to unlock missions there (based on your reputation and money). Then you have a sense of progression, of actually building something. You can have goals. Earn the licenses, expand the scope of your company. You can choose to start as a charter services, or a cargo, or whatever. And then expand to deal with other things.
Really, this is not a career more, it is a random flight generator for flying the smaller planes in the game. That is all it is really. The most fun I had in career mode was selling the initial C172 and grinding my way back to being able to own a plane. Because I had a goal, and I was flying to achieve it. Career mode misses the entire point of a career mode, imo.
I hope they can get it right, but I doubt it will get much better. It seems to be an afterthought right now, which is weird given the prominence this mode has on the main menu. Anyway, I feel better saying all that!
