Career mode won't start

I’m getting along fairly well with many aspects of MSFS2024. I’d like to try the Career mode, but can’t seem to get it started. I select “Career Mode,” it asks me for a start location, I type in an airport, it zooms me to the 10,000 ft view, and then just sits there. I see no other buttons to push. Am I waiting for something? Am I missing something? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Obvious ask, but did you try restarting the sim? My Career Mode occasionally gets stuck on a loading screen like that, and restarting seems to fix it. If that doesn’t help, there’s also a problem right now where a lot of missions are missing due to what looks like a glitch in the date system. Perhaps that’s preventing you from picking a start location too.

Even if you get into the Career Mode, users are reporting First Flight missions are entirely missing right now, so you won’t be able to progress very far.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I have tried restarting it several times - in fact, often it’s the first and last thing I try during a flight sim session.

Moved to User Support Hub as OP is requesting community assistance.

Just wanted to check and make sure this topic is still open. Has anyone else had this problem, or is it just me? Thanks!

I have the same problem. Choose an Airport, zooms in.. can’t go beyond that. SIm doesn’t crash or anything, but just cannot go forward into career mode.

I do have exactly the same behavior. I can select whatever airport I like, I see this 10000ft view and nothing moves forward. I tried at different times, dates etc, it just sits there and nothing happens.

I can’t even get past the loading screen. I select career, then it goes to a black screen with the spinning circle in the bottom right, and just stays there. Free flight works fine, though.

I think I found (a possible) solution.
What I did in the past was to put in a 4 letter code for a particular airport where I wanted to start the career. As posted above this did not get me anywhere. What worked for me was to select a particular airport (so far nothing changes), then press the “x” next to this input field.
With that I did see another (only one in my case) airport, a much smaller one, nearby which I selected. And selecting this brought up the career mode and I was able to move on and do something in it.

This solution worked for me

I’m experiencing an issue with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Career Mode on Xbox Series S. When attempting to start a Career Cargo Mission with the Cessna 172, the mission overview screen loads (map view), I can “Accept Mission”, I can press "FLY on the Hanger Screen. However, on the Preflight Screen (plane view) the game becomes unresponsive and the screen is locked, zero input is being received from the controller preventing any further progress. Additionally, the “preflight skip” displays incorrectly as “Hold [NEXT FLIGHT PHASE] to skip to taxi”

I’ve tried restarting the game and my console, uninstalling and reinstalling all locally saved data related to game, etc. but the issue persists. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any known fixes or workarounds? MS2024 is great when it works!

I am having a similar problem. I tried career mode and it always freezes up. I have not been able to complete one training session yet as it never loads up. I am seriously considering getting a refund.

Same here. I am able to complete only one career mode mission if at all. Else it just gets stuck on the loading screen with the circle spinning continuously in the lower right corner of the screen. Not worth the price that I paid for this at all. I am on a PC.

I was using career mode OK until it crashed during the CPL exam. Since then, it always hangs on the loading screen. Other game modes work fine.

I am having the same issue. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled MSFS2024 but the problem persists. I click on my chosen airport (a small local airport so no issue with international) and all I see is the map from a great height and my airport centred.
Anyone getting close to a solution?

thanks for the idea. Unfortunately nothing changed for me but I appreciate the advice

I think I have the solution. Don’t just pick an airport at random. Zom in on the map and see the white dots indicating airports. It is these airports and only these that will accept Career Mode. Click on the one you want to use and it will lead you through the start up process. If you already managed a start and then had it freeze I think you need to go back to reset Career mode and begin again with the white dot airports.
It worked for me, hope it does for you.

My issue is that I load in, do the discovery flight or whatever the beginning is, and then I select an airport. It says an error occurred and backs me out, deleting my data. Is there a fix, or is this a bug?

Hi same issue here on Xbox x.

I have started the career and can do the initial training and first flight missions.

But the main problems I have are the following.

  • first flight missions sometimes (50/50) freeze on the flight briefing screen or when I’m standing at the aircraft
  • Everytime I go in to the commercial pilot licence it freezes when I start at the aircraft. I can move , turn my head, no buttons work and there are no short cut buttons. It’s been like this for a year now .

I initially just gave up on career but now it would be the thing that would be new and interesting about the game.

Any ideas of suggestions welcome
