I really wanted to buy this, but hearing it still has issues, even now, just sums up Carenado completely. They make beautiful aircraft, but with hollow and broken systems.
I need to walk back my harsh criticism of this aircraft.
I just flew it for the first time in quite a while; using it for VFR pattern work at KVLK with BATC’s newly implemented VFR, and it was great. Really. I feel like a heel for being so harsh.
It looks like they addressed a few of the complaints, however I did not test for fixes on all of them, as I was trying to focus on using BATC and behaving as proper pilot.
Fortunately, this is still on sale if you are interested. I’d have felt worse if the sale were over, having written what I just did.
It’s great at this price point.
Well, on the second flight, I no longer have an animating propeller! It’s stuck at the horizontal position.
I also noted these issues still present:
- Stall horn non-op
- Taxi light switch position missing
- Mixture axis-to-mixture setting still too aggressive. I don’t need to use much of my axis for it to cutoff.
That’s what I’ve been saying from the start too. I do have some little nitpicks, much like you do, but any attempt I’ve made to mod them out have failed. With that in mind, I just tell myself a few of the quirks aren’t out of place for such an old 172 IRL so I’ll allow it. With that in mind, it’s delightful to fly. Not perfect but delightful
Thanks for the info. It is on my list - but above it is the C182RG - which although more has more consistent reviews.
The 172 is the only Carenado aircraft I fly (and I own many). I still hope someone brings a mod a la B307 or Beech 18.
Edit: Hmm… I also fly the Denarq Beech 18, that one is from Carenado also, I think.
Again, I’m here to reiterate this.
I’ve been truly enjoying the 172 with BATC’s VFR. It has been excellent for this sort of activity.
I sent them a support request asking for a few things to be addressed. Hopefully, they will get to them in time.
Perhaps when I move to Vancouver Island, I can do some flying in the 172 @Zeanuck has access to.
I sure like the look of it!
Send me a PM, and if your interested in getting your PPL, I’m also an instructor. ![]()
