Carenado Mooney M20R Ovation

For the landing, try to fly a stable approach at 70-75 knots and slowly move the throttle to idle above the threshold. I saw that on a video of the real M20R and it worked pretty well for me.

Edit: That’s the video

Thanks for that. I think on final I was too high, and just pulling back on the throttle caused me to sink too much. Will try again as suggested.

M20R Left and Right Hat View Fix:
-Go to this folder, where the drive letter is the actual drive letter of your sim installation:
E:\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Official\OneStore\carenado-aircraft-m20r-ovation\SimObjects\Airplanes\Carenado_M20R_Ovation
-Make a backup copy of your CAMERA.CFG file that is in this folder, in case you need to revert back to it.
-Open …\Carenado_M20R_Ovation\CAMERA.CFG in Notepad
-Scroll down to [CAMERADEFINITION.11] Title =“QuickView_L2” and change these lines three lines to:
InitialZoom =0.35
InitialXyz = 0, -0, -0
InitialPbh = 0, 0, -90
-Then, scroll down to [CAMERADEFINITION.14] Title ="QuickView_R2"and change these lines three lines to:
InitialZoom =0.35
InitialXyz = 0, -0, -0
InitialPbh = 0, 0, 90
Save file and close notepad.
Start MS FS2020 and the left and right hat view for the M20R will work as expected.

Start MSFS with a default plane with lots of avionics, then switch to the Mooney either using Dev change aircraft or going back to the menu.

How about using the spoilers right before touchdown? I’ve read some pilots use that technique

I wasn’t even aware this little plane had spoilers. Will need to take a look.

As a glider pilot I do that regularly in real life, but I’ve flown the Lancair Legacy in sims quite a bit and with the Legacy you’re not supposed to land with spoilers deployed. Maybe it’s different for the Mooneys…

The controls are on the left side of the yoke. It also took me a while to find them. Spoilers are great to get from cruising speed to about approach speed.

That will save me from going to idle, and aggressively trimming upwards. Thanks.

Can someone enlighten me whats that black mat on right wing ?

I’m not at my PC now, but is that not where you step up to get into the plane?

that is a none slip paint so when you enter the aircraft you don’t lose your footing on the wing if its wet its also a reinforced area so your weight will not damage the wing but do not step out of this area

Thanks for the suggestion. However, the headphone simulation is poorly implemented. You may as well just reduce the engine sound volume. In the XP11 Mooney the effect is like with my Zulu active noise reduction headset that I wear in the M20J Mooney that I own and fly.

Regarding the speed brakes on landing: I just had a look at the POH. The speed brakes actually can be used all the way down to touchdown. It is recommended to retract them and add power if the rate of descent is becoming too fast.

During descent you can deploy them at any speed (under Vne, that is)

The only door to the plane is on that side, and it’s for stepping on when getting in.

yes that is correct the M20R has one cabin entry door which is on the aircraft right

I bought the Carenado Mooney about an hour ago.

In addition to the already mentioned issues with holding a NAV course, trim over sensitivity and messed up quick views I am also experiencing issues with my Thrustmaster TWCS Throttle (TTT) which has proved fault free with the Asobo default aircraft. It doesn’t recongnise the left side wheel and the axis binding to the throttle itself stops working after a couple of minutes. Not sure why this is happening but I thought I would mention it to see if anybody else has come across any throttle binding issues.

As said, there are no problems with the TTT with any other aircraft in the sim. Windows joystick recalibration and reboot of PC and sim has been tried. No other controllers have bindings which conflict with the TTT. Not sure what the problem is here but basically, at the moment, the Mooney is not flyable with the controller.

Despite the issues I like the AC but it’s a waste of money for me at the moment since it is rendering one of my main controllers redundant.

Not had any throttle trouble with my TQ6+.

Okay thanks.

Strange though since it’s the first time i’ve had any such issues. I’ve even, just now, moved it to a different USB connection but still no joy.

TOP! I get it to work for the first time. I hope it will stay on for the whole flight. THX
