This plane used to be faster than PA-28R Turbo Arrow III/IV.
Now, it’s slower compared to the Turbo Arrow.
At least, based on IRL pilot who flew both planes, Mooney M20R should be faster.
Finally, someone noticed it. Yes, this Mooney is way underperforming.
Even after the recent patch the performance hasn’t been improved? I remember at release (September 2020) it was a very fast aircraft, but the xbox release patch killed that.
The one bug I’ve noticed is when you have all the lights on: Recog, Taxi, & Landing lights the frames drop a ton. Anyone else experience that too?
Are you leaning the mixture as you ascend? I have not experienced what you are describing, unless you have it at full rich.
Leaning like a Champion… Put people into the mooney, max out the weight, tell me the max. Ft/Min you are climbimg permanently at lets say 5000ft and not stalling (~90 Knots)
There was a “turbo” mod at flightsim.to which enhanced the power Situation but went far beyond reality I guess. It felt like a hot rod.
over powered, under powered,
under powered, over powered,
I’m not here to attack anyone or defend Carenado… but the truth is that the developers can do what they want, there will always be a group that doesn’t like this and that…
The updates to the T182, PC-12 & Mooney have taken a long time but have been successful. And whether an aircraft is a few mph slower or faster, I don’t give a ■■■■… that’s what I call tolerance.
But that seems to be a foreign word in today’s society

Exactly. After all nor all engines are identical, so the POH values are averages achieved with test aircraft. Friend of mine recently installed an overhauled engine in his Warrior and told me it’s like flying in a new plane.
I tested with 190 lb passengers in all four seats and added fuel to get payload to 99.6%, a few pounds below max gross. I was able to climb at 1000 fpm to above 6000’. Max RPM and leaned to keep EGT in the green band. I had the A/P set at 1000 fpm but it would only show 800 fpm on the vertical speed indicator so I turned off autopilot and trimmed for 1000 fpm.
True, developers can do what they want. It is the consumer who will decide if it is accepted. Stating something does not mean not exercising tolerance. I enjoy flying Mooney but does not mean I accept anything less than what is Mooney known for. Consumer feedback is actually good for all of us.
Enjoy flying mate.
Okay thanks for that. Two things - I did not.max out the RPM (that would be max manifold which you use in emergency and at take off) and the second - as I read in the internet - the documentation says IRL it should be 1300 ft/min… But… As I said, I am not a real life pilot I do not know how powerful the mooney should be… I am just seeing what others say and… We did not talk about performance higher than 15.000ft - I did not test it after the recent update but one year ago it was a shame…
I did a long flight yesterday after the update and it definitely IS faster than the Turbo Arrow at lower altitudes. The Turbo Arrow will still have advantages at higher altitudes - i.e. above 10,000 - due to the Turbo. The Mooney simulated here doesn’t have one.
I didn’t have max manifold pressure - only max RPM using the prop control. Also, you won’t fly a normally aspirated airplane above 15,000 ft. That would require turbocharging.
I can confirm that flaps are broken now. They don’t respond to HOTAS commands, and if I use the control with the mouse, the handle just goes back to the up position.
EDIT: so I fixed this by adding a new key assignment (set flaps continuous which doesn’t do anything), and my old key assignments started working again. The issue was some bug with my HOTAS assignment. Last week, I touched a button on my Virpil CM3, and the sim crashed. I loaded up the Virpil software, and it said my firmware was unsupported. After updating the firmware on all my HOTAS kit, I lost some key assignments on the throttle. Fun stuff.
However, I will add that this aircraft does not want to lose speed. I set throttle and rpm to idle, warning sounds start, but airspeed hardly drops below 150kts.
Hence why it has airbrakes!
Speaking of airbrakes, does anyone know the default keystroke to toggle speed brakes? I’ve never been able to find a switch for it inside the cockpit.
Should be on the Yoke. Left side I believe. I map mine on throttle, so I never use the mouse or keyboard for it. Keybind should be spoilers.
the switch is on the yoke.
IIRC you can use toggle speedbreak (or spoiler?)
service ceiling is 20.000 ft, although pilots report they could climb until 19.000 ft
