Carenado Mooney M20R Ovation

Thanks I’ll give it another go today…I forgot the golden rule of sim reset last night!

Well they went above and beyond, sort of, in this update. For example I noticed the MAP InHG digital value now has a decimal value :hushed:

Haha are you serious? I submitted this as a bug report to them the first week this plane was released. I assumed they just didn’t care about realism and were never going to fix it even though it was a 2 character code change. I guess they did care but it just took them a couple of years to make the change

Is there a way to get a DME for NAV2? I want do do LOC/DME Approach and need to set both NAVs to different frequencies. Obviously, DME is linked to NAV1.

What’s the best flight level range for the Moony?

Just got it and could not get over 100kts, at 15-18,000ft, was leaned out to peek.
Also CHT just keeps climbing to over red

Tried it out today. Looks good so far. Love the static wicks flopping in the wind.

Gonna take it on a longer, high alt flight soon.

seriously? not even 1000 ft/min climb rate? gets into stall at ~4000 ft, loaded fully, fuel 40% alltogether 90% … where is the performance hidden? in the year 2021? that is the last time the mooney had balls… may had too much, I am the wrong person to ask, but this here seems also far away from reality when I look at the performance tables of real mooneys… so why updating?

It’s normally aspirated. I tend to fly those at around 7,000-8,000, maybe 9,000 if the winds are more favorable.

I didn’t notice much difference in performance.

  • I did notice the static wicks move around, as well.
  • Some new crazing on the front windshield down low near the bottom. If it was there before, I hadn’t noticed.
  • the altitude hold and vertical speed seemed to worked the same as other airplanes - seems like it was a little weird before this update.
  • One minor thing that really annoyed me before was the interior lights were either on or off - no dimming levels in-between. that’s fixed now - has dimming.
  • I also noticed the added decimal digit on the manifold pressure. so 23.4" instead of just 23".

The WTT GNS530 works well. For some reason, Carenado won’t save the selection of the GPS on the AirPad, so even though I have the PMS GNS750, I have to enabled it every flight and I get tired of switching it - I do a lot of short flights. Minor issue but who knows when that will get fixed.

For some reason, I had to rebind the parking brake on my Bravo quadrant but it works fine now.

The Mooney has always been one of my favorites, so I’m glad Carenado gave it some attention.

This plane used to be faster than PA-28R Turbo Arrow III/IV.
Now, it’s slower compared to the Turbo Arrow.
At least, based on IRL pilot who flew both planes, Mooney M20R should be faster.

Finally, someone noticed it. Yes, this Mooney is way underperforming.

Even after the recent patch the performance hasn’t been improved? I remember at release (September 2020) it was a very fast aircraft, but the xbox release patch killed that.

The one bug I’ve noticed is when you have all the lights on: Recog, Taxi, & Landing lights the frames drop a ton. Anyone else experience that too?

Are you leaning the mixture as you ascend? I have not experienced what you are describing, unless you have it at full rich.

Leaning like a Champion… Put people into the mooney, max out the weight, tell me the max. Ft/Min you are climbimg permanently at lets say 5000ft and not stalling (~90 Knots)

There was a “turbo” mod at flightsim.to which enhanced the power Situation but went far beyond reality I guess. It felt like a hot rod.

over powered, under powered,
under powered, over powered,

I’m not here to attack anyone or defend Carenado… but the truth is that the developers can do what they want, there will always be a group that doesn’t like this and that…
The updates to the T182, PC-12 & Mooney have taken a long time but have been successful. And whether an aircraft is a few mph slower or faster, I don’t give a ■■■■… that’s what I call tolerance.
But that seems to be a foreign word in today’s society

Exactly. After all nor all engines are identical, so the POH values are averages achieved with test aircraft. Friend of mine recently installed an overhauled engine in his Warrior and told me it’s like flying in a new plane.

I tested with 190 lb passengers in all four seats and added fuel to get payload to 99.6%, a few pounds below max gross. I was able to climb at 1000 fpm to above 6000’. Max RPM and leaned to keep EGT in the green band. I had the A/P set at 1000 fpm but it would only show 800 fpm on the vertical speed indicator so I turned off autopilot and trimmed for 1000 fpm.

True, developers can do what they want. It is the consumer who will decide if it is accepted. Stating something does not mean not exercising tolerance. I enjoy flying Mooney but does not mean I accept anything less than what is Mooney known for. Consumer feedback is actually good for all of us.

Enjoy flying mate.
