Carenado Mooney M20R Ovation

The Turbo Mod for Mooney makes it most enjoyable again

and thats why i wont buy them.

It is overpowered, but in my opinion, better than underpowered.

The turbo mod for the mooney work well as far as I can see, but how realistic is it , the mooney seem very over powered with the this patch.

If for instance a real mooney m20R keep a speed of 100knt at climb rate 1000fts with 25 map and 2500 rpm. the mooney in msfs should do the same (or close) other things beeing equal.

Can a real mooney pilot comment on how close to reality this mod is!

It’s probably not realistic. But the stock Mooney isn’t either. You could play with the values in the engine.cfg and change them to your liking. That’s what I did when I made this mod.

The new update for the Mooney also mentions that the tablet device that you can use to operate various features (sorry forgot what it’s called) has a new method to open/close it.
It used to be by clicking on a part of the yoke. I can’t get that to work now, anyone know how to operate it since the update?

I believe it is now located in the side pocket near the door on the co-pilot side on the aircraft. Simply cliciking on it should raise it for operation. Clicking on it again near the top should stow it away again.

Beware if using it in VR mode, as when viewed from a certain anglee, clicking on what appears to be the “next” option at the bottom of the pad has a potential to open the co-pilot door instead of advancing to the next page :joy:

The Flypad is in front of the right door near the copilot rudder pedals.

Also the illumination of the Seneca has been patched too to match the perfect quality of the Mooney.
Absolute awesome.

The best thing: The spelling error “OUTS IDE” on the multifunctions engine panel is now patched too and looks correct (OUTSIDE). Carenado truly take care of their precious airplanes and give the little details attention:

There is the position of the Flypad in the Mooney and the Seneca, click here to open it:

I am already working on a new interior for the updated Mooney and the Seneca to upload on weekend. I have to redo some gauge textures and details because the illumination is now truly enhanced

By the way, has the Mooney M20 Ovation a turbocharger? On the EDM gauge there is no bar for turbine inlet temperature TIT showing up. That´s no my fault I am just changing the texture of the labelling for the EDM gauge.

Did it fix the underpowered perf?

I could do that in FSX, but I don´t have access to the flight dynamics file because it´s encrypted. No sorry it´s only a visual overhaul of the interior, it will look like this:

Now I have to write some minor changes into the panel.config to render all gauges and panels with 2048x2048 pixel resolution, and voilĂĄ it can be uploaded to flightsim.to

Can’t say yet. I only had time for a quick 10 minute flight, it didnt seem any different from the last time I flew it (been busy with the kodiak recently).
I thought most posts I’ve read were suggesting rhe mooney was overpowered, not underpowered?

Ok thanks I’ll give that a try. Seems like an unusual place to put it though.

With the turbo mod its overpowered, but the stock is underpowered since last patch

Just tried it, quite a nice animation of it flying out of the door pocket and into position

If you want an updated Mooney interior, it is finished

I agree it is a little anaemic, particularly at altitude. Can’t reach higher than 12.000 feet anymore.

I am currently climbing to 12,500 @ the rate of 200 fpm, from 11,300. I usually don’t fly the Mooney in the “oxygen required” altitudes, but this does not match the book performance at all.

Edit: compared “captured” performance today after landing, to the legacy LNM profile I had, dated May 2021. Performance has fallen off rather dramatically. Rate of climb is down, and TAS is off by over 20 KIAS. There is no way you could reach the 20,000 foot service ceiling; to get to 12,500 took from KPRB (a little more than 800’ ASL) to just south of KSJO. I’ll bet I could do better in the C152. I may try that just for grins…

Here is the original POH for the Mooney Ovation:

Here’s what the performance degradation looks like for the Mooney.

“Current Value” is from a May 2021 LNM Aircraft Performance file

“New Value” is from yesterday’s flight @ 7500 feet
