Carenado Piper PA-44 Seminole

Actually, the 10 minute battery is a real thing! I’ve been warned by maintenance that running the master switch for more than 10 minutes will cause the voltage to drop too low for an engine start.

I’ve learned to mess with the GPS only after the alternators are on and the engines are running.

I HATE HATE HATE that about Carenado aircraft. In the past, I would fix it every time. Since it’s encrypted, we can no longer do that as far as I know.

All the default conditions you mentioned can be controlled through the apron.flt, approach.flt, etc. files. I wonder if a weight&balance section might be added to those files, too, so better default values can be entered. I don’t know if those files are saved dynamically or are static (easy enough to test).

Nah, it’s perfectly capable on one engine. I have 500 hours on type and fly them with one engine idling every flight. It would only really struggle at high weight, and/or high density altitude.

EDIT: The aircraft in it’s default loaded state(~3470lb, 50% fuel, 3 pax, 70lb baggage), should be able to maintain altitude with one engine feathered and flown properly up to about 6400ft assuming STANDARD ATMOSPHERE(29.92in, 15C at sea level, which is accomplished in the sim via ‘Clear Skies’ preset).

Once more regarding the battery issue: I understand that the cca 10 inutes battery depletion is more-or-less correct. That was not my point, but that the ampmeter shows erratic values and that the external power supply is a visual add-on only, not a real power source. I filed a request at Carrenado zendesk and received a reply:

Carenado Support, Nov 23, 2020, 19:29 GMT-3:
Greetings,

Thank you for your feedback, we are going to forward this to our dev area to be checked and fixed for the next version of this aircraft.

Regards,
Carenado.

My letter was this:

Nov 23, 2020, 17:28 GMT-3:

Hi,

I purchased both Piper PA44 and Mooney Ovation for MSFS2020. Thanks for them.

In Piper PA44 I experience that the ammeter is not modelled very much, which is OK, but one can’t check the battery status. In cold/dark cockpit the battery is depleted within some 10 minutes if all external and internal lights are turned on. If the engines and alternators are working, this does not happen. This is possibly OK, but:

  1. There is no way to check the battery status
  2. It seems the external power supply is not providing current to the batteries. Even if it is “connected”, the battery is depleted within the same duration.
  3. after the battery is depleted, there is no way to recharge it.

Restarting the flight solves the problem.

This is not a huge issue, but if possibly, please check if you can do something with a better modelling of the battery/ammeter.

Thanks,
Gábor

I find that very interesting and Encouraging.

So ZenDesk / Asobo are going to check AND get “FIXED” (or get Carenado to fix) their aircraft sold on the MSFS Marketplace.

I will believe that when I see it …

What are they going to do ?

Asobo is not going to FIX Carenado’s Plane.
The best they can do is take it off the MarketPlace, (for Sale), until Carenado fixes it to whatever state is considered to be fixed.

If that is how it is really going to work, and MarketPlace items will be held to a “Standard” by Microsoft, then, I am all for that … but I cannot see Carenado liking it at all !!!

I purchased the PA44. I will be watching how this develops with Great Interest !!!

@N6722C, yes, Carenado is fixing bugs. They released an update already for the Ovation and the next one is coming this Thurday with the “general” MS Marketplace update. Carenado is still responsible for fixing bugs:

We as Carenado now can only solve developing issues, like if something is not working ok on the aircraft, or a bad texture or sound…

OK, I get it … So Carenado have their own “Carenado ZenDesk” Good …

Where are the manuals for this plane? Can not seem to find it.

It’s under SimObjects of the folder the aircraft is installed in.

Thanks mate, I was looking for that folder structure to look like in Xplane, it does, just further down the folder structure.

Just a quick question regarding, if I get my terminology correct, the HSI, and the lower left CDI.

I had both tuned to the same VOR. I was on downwind, tracking roughly 050, with the HSI set to 230. On the HSI, I had one arrow pointing downwards, in the direction of 230, and the other arrow pointing to 050. The VOR was still in front of me at this point, so that was correct. The other instrument, also set to 050 was showing the To indicator. As I passed the VOR the HSI then flipped so that both arrows were now pointing in the same direction, behind me to 230, indicating I must turn around, which is also correct I believe.

However, the lower left CDI still showed the TO flag, even though it was now behind me.

Perhaps I am reading it wrong, but I’ve not noticed that with the Mooney. I expected the lower FROM flag to come on.

  1. Can someone pls check if his altimeter baro setting tooltip matches the little dials in the gauge. my tooltip seems to always show a different (but the correct baro value). So if i would choose the baro using the little dials as reference it would be the wrong baro and altimeter would show wrong altitude. BTW: I am mostly using the automatic correct baro set key binding.

  2. How does the little temperature gauge inside the speed indicator work?

THX

I have the same. ATC says 1024 but I have to set baro at 1035 to get correct pressure alt

Yes there’s an issue with the altimeter, also spotted and acknowledged by TheFlyingFabio. He contacted Carenado describing the issue, and they said they are looking into it.

Spoken like someone who has no idea about much of GA planes… A seminole and a baron are two completely different aircraft with different purposes. Engines aren’t even in the same category, seating is completely different and so on…

As it stands now, this sim is a pure VFR proficiency training aid. Having training aircraft like the 150s, 172s, and now the Seminole gives a good step from single to ME exposure. Higher approach speeds, additional complexity and workloads give those looking to supplement their training a new challenge.

And while it’s only a Carenado product with next to no actual true-to-life performance, it’s more about understanding procedures and operations of an ME.

What’s tiring is having to read post by know-it-alls that don’t have a clue. They will update the marketplace whenever they feel like it. Just today they updated it with the World Update 2 and a software update. But this can’t be according to you so we all must be seeing things.

That’s not the same. World Update 2 is not Third Party Updates. Forget it. I have no time to discuss anything with you. Go complain some more somewhere. You do pretty well at this.

Ok, thanks for your feedback.

The frustration now is : OK Carenado is doing an update …
But if you already own the product, but have not installed it yet ( old version), you will now have to wait to download, until Thursday ?

I guess it stop people downloading a know defective version — but having purchased it, without knowing I would have to wait some time to get it – its just a little “Frustrating” – but thats the way it is – I Know "get over it " !!! lol (I have  )
