Caribbean texture

Anybody else notice the lack of color in the tropical islands. Just look green.

I was in Saint Lucia in March and that’s what it was - all green! Even the huge oil tanks in Castries.

They are generally very green.
Try Curacao. Shouldn’t be much green, it’s very dry and desertish.

Are there coral reefs or anything like that?

For instance. I know not as detailed but something like these. https://rexsimulations.com/td.html

Definitely in Curacao (one of the best scuba diving spots in the world).

I was flying out of the Bahamas. Water was a blue ish which was nice but I was hoping to see coral reefs. Would be nice to have random reefs around all the Caribbean islands.

I yet have to try the Caribbeans. I did fly over Miami Beach yesterday on High-end graphics.
While the scenery was extremely accurate (I could clearly see my building and many others that looked very real), the water was standard blue and not the typical turquoise/green you see in Miami Beach. Still beautiful, but not accurate.

They are a work in progress but there are spots they have already updated into the sim!

Check out the Screenshot Forum…

In the first pics I’m flying in the Caribbean over Cockburn Harbor and others have also found some wonderful colored/coral waters! Just scroll down to see several wonderful shots.

They are marvelous looking spots!!!

Flew over US and British Virgin Islands just now (on Ultra graphics), and I agree. The island placement and shapes are correct, but the textures are bland, with none of the vibrant colors you’d see in real life. The ocean is a dull dark blue, trees are almost pine green, and the shallows just slightly blue green.

The structures and trees also seem to be more sparsely populated than in some other auto-generated areas, including rural areas of the US and even Russia. Road Town, Tortola had much less vegetation than in real life. And there are zero boats, even with traffic turned up to 100.

I’m sure it’ll get better in time, but given how beautiful some fairly obscure auto-generated areas already are, I was surprised that such a well-known location didn’t look better.

I just flew out of Turks and Caicos and there were no coral reefs

Well you’re doing it wrong somehow. The screens and videos in the gallery prove otherwise.

What could be the issue. I have texture resolution ULTRA, level of detail 200. Just water waves is high. That shouldn’t effect the reefs

It’s not just the Caribbean. The aquamarine waters of SE Asia are mostly AWOL. It’s a huge disappointment - the coastal and island seas in places like Raja Ampat in Indonesia, all around the Philippines, and Sulawesi, etc, in real life, are stunningly beautiful - but, in fact, it’s all missing as far as I can see. Add to that the inability of the software to model the magnificent limestone cliffs and islands of SE Asia (and the Caribbean) and it’s a bit deflating.

And while the procedural vegetation is great - no doubt about it - it seems quite inaccurate in these tropical regions. Yes, I know I sound like the now-infamous satirical post made here A long series of completely legitimate and extremely serious complaints about MSFS but, for instance: where are all the coconut palms in Sri Lanka and the Philippines?

Don’t mean to sound like I’m whingeing. I really am bowled-over by MSFS 2020. Let’s hope these revisions to regional vegetation is something that can be done over time.

Have you tried Harold Charles Airport/MBAC out yet? That area is loaded with beautiful water/corals!

It’s just North of Haiti.

Your settings seem fine. You should see them easily.

If your not seeing them, then perhaps it’s a server issue? Maybe the server your streaming from has old data? I’m just guessing as I don’t really know how all that works.

I took off from MBAC. Departed north and didn’t see anything

I think that with a source even of low resolution the effect can be amazing… Here is a work on the shallows of the Caribbean for another simulator using the open source images of the Sentinel2 mission (satellite 10m/p) with may be a re-sampling to increase resolution and adding the blur induced by the water layer and superposition of the swell … the effect could already be very correct in my opinion…

I’ve been flying all over the Turks and Caicos islands and my water is the usual dark color. Nothing like these! Running on high settings at 1440p.

Yeah I have no idea how there is the other different colored water. I’m in ultra too so water should be best possible water settings.

For whatever reason I had “Bing data world graphics” turned off on the Data option, so if you can’t see the water masking, double check if you have this option enabled. It’s beautiful!
