Catastrophic Memory Leak during download

I was attempting a total reinstallation of MSFS following a rash of CTDs with error 0xC0000005 when this started happening. I am completely unable to install the simulator now. This is a computer that is normally well behaved.

Are you using Developer Mode or made changes in it?

No

Have you disabled/removed all your mods and addons?

Yes

Brief description of the issue:

During download of content via the content manager at initial start, the program starts eating up memory until all of the system’s resources are completely used up. At that point, either the simulator crashes with event viewer showing code 0x80000003, or the entire computer freezes and becomes unrecoverable.

Provide Screenshot(s)/video(s) of the issue encountered:

Unable due to system-wide freezing

Detailed steps to reproduce the issue encountered:

With a clean install of MSFS, start downloading mandatory content (in my case it is going to the D: HDD drive). Monitor resource use in Windows Task Manager. RAM resources should peg at maximum after a while.

Almost certainly going to be a hardware problem … type memtest in your search bar and run the diagnostic

I did memtest on my system. Even set it to do two passes in extended mode. No issues were found in either pass. I also did DISM and SFC to check Windows itself. Both returned no fault found.

Oh sorry that didn’t help … my only other suggestion is get a bigger C: drive, 256gb is really pushing it for Windows, MSFS and presumably your page file.

You could try running disk defragmenter and disk check to make sure all is well, then do a full reboot and try again.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?

Yes. On attempted installation memory usage creeps up to 99% before either I end the process or it crashes my PC.
