Is there a way to change traffice in flight? Such as switch from live traffic to AI traffic or NO traffic?
No, I don’t think so. What specific issue are you having with traffic?
I am pretty sure that in the past if I have started a flight with live traffic enabled then I can disable (and re-enable if desired) by going to (from memory)
Options>General>data>and changing the relevant online setting for traffic from live to No AI.
I would need to have MSFS running to check the exact path to the relevant setting.
I can’t get live traffic to work. There’s just no body out there. So half way through my flight I wanted to switch to AI traffic so there would be some challenge at my destination airport. Xplane allows you to add or remove traffic in flight so was seeing if this was available in MSFS2020
Well, with the pandemic and the airline industry grounding a lot of their aircrafts. It’s understandable that you would be getting few live traffic. I know I also had a few slow days where I couldn’t get any Live Traffic to show. But since WU6 I’ve been getting them and my ATC chatter always have some live traffic communicating with each other.
It might also helps to check your settings to make sure all the data options are all On, as well as you’re connected to a fast server with the lowest ping number.
Did you switch on labels? With labels on you cant miss them. Go to a big airport during peak hours and maybe then??
It’s in options - traffic. Just change it to whatever you wish.
I usually turn them off since they’re a distraction having floating texts in the air. Hahaha.
Now that I am in the sim I can share two areas that I think allow your to change options in flight:
- Under options>General Options>Data, ensure Live Real-World Air Traffic is set to ON under data connection:
- Under Options>General Options>Traffic it is possible to cycle through various Aircraft Traffic Type while in flight
However, it is my understanding that these can only be changed in flight as long as when starting the flight the multiplayer option “Live Players” was not selected for the flight
Correct. You can switch traffic on and off at will in the menu @tamalien showed. And you can switch between live or offline AI traffic as well. I’ve done it before for testing purposes and can confirm it works exactly as it’s supposed to. Although keep in mind that once you make a change, it will take a minute or so before the new traffic starts populating the skies. It’s not an instantaneous switch.
However, if you select Live Players as your game mode, your traffic type is locked to Real-Time Online (live) just like your weather is locked to Live Weather. That’s the point of that mode. It puts you in a live situation with other players ensuring that everyone sees the same weather, time and traffic at all times. You have to use All Players or Off (Group Only) in order to be able to change world options while in flight.
Total rubbish. There is plenty of traffic in the air. The game only shows a small percentage.
Look at this live stream from yesterday at KORD. If the game mimicked this, it would be awesome:
Yeah, which is mostly on countries that are not locking down. Looking at the concentration, it’s mostly active around Europe and northern Atlantic. Looking at Australia where I live, where we’ve been on lockdown for over a year now, there’s only and handful of aircrafts visible on the icon. and even fewer on international travel, since citizens are not allowed to exit the country unless they file an exemption with a compelling reason to do so. Otherwise, all the international flights are very limited and for non-citizens and non-residents.
I’ve done traffic counts using FlightAware and comparing to what I see on my LNM map for the immediate radius of about 50NM around my plane. The best we can expect to see in sim is about 20%. Typically, we see about 5-10% at most.
I do think there’s some irregularity in how traffic is displayed in different regions though. In certain parts of the US (typically in south Florida), I’ll see 15-20% at times. AT TIMES… Other areas like Europe, I’m lucky to see 5%.
Definitely true. I did a flight from MMMX yesterday and every flight on FlightAware was seen on Live Traffic although delayed.
