Changing the initial background image? Location?

Does anyone know how to change the initial background image for the windows store version? I’ve found background_loading.jpg and LOADING_FREEFLIGHT.jpg which are used as you go to fly etc, but I can’t find the Arc de Triomphe one which comes up first. Someone said it was called “onboarding.jpg” but that doesn’t seem to exist. Thanks.

background_loading.jpg IS the Arc de Triomphe in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Official\OneStore\fs-base\missions\Common\LOADING\BOOT (or something like that) Just choose your own picture, rename it background_loading.jpg and replace the original one (after saving a copy of the original file)

Thanks good point but I’ve changed:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Official\OneStore\fs-base\missions\Common\LOADING\FreeFlight\LOADING_FREEFLIGHT.jpg
and
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Official\OneStore\fs-base\missions\Common\LOADING\BOOT\background_loading.jpg

and deleted the image I found with the Arc de triomphe but it must be somewhere else as all the above does it changes images while moving around to different sections or starting a flight in the game. I still get the Paris short as the game loads.

Maybe the fact it says cache suggests it is stored somewhere else too. This is for windows store not steam.

Read my post again and use the correct path where all the main files are located (the one with Community and Store), not the AppData folder.

I’ve got nothing related in program files. Can’t seem to get at the drive I installed on but I’ll have another look.

Do you know in what drive you installed the sim? That’s where you have to look. The AppData folder content is created AFTER installation of the core-files

Sounds like a privs issue might explain me not finding the file then. Yeah I know which drive it’s in but windows store does something weird with privs and stops me viewing things. If I search that drive for background_loading I find the file I’ve already replaced. Which doesn’t replace the Arc de Triomphe as the game is starting. Even though as you say that is what the image was.

E:\WpSystem\S-1-5-21-4173363090-4192982735-109853107-1001\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Official\OneStore\fs-base\missions\Common\LOADING\BOOT\background_loading.jpg I’ve already replaced. The paths I showed are simply shortcuts created in my users folder, automatically to the same location from the looks of it.

No, wrong folder. Have you ticked the checkbox for: show hidden files, folders etc in the Explorer app? (I don’t know if it is the correct translation)

That’s where the game is installed. I’ve got show hidden files etc on. The only background_loading.jpg file I have has already been changed and it only works for some in game backgrounds not the one at the start when it’s loading up initially.

A thread on avsim says there are 3 files to change:

  1. G:\SteamClient\steamapps\common\MicrosoftFlightSimulator\Packages\fs-base-onboarding\images\onboarding.jpg
  2. G:\FlightSim\Official\Steam\fs-base\missions\Common\LOADING\BOOT\background_loading.jpg
  3. G:\FlightSim\Official\Steam\fs-base\missions\Common\LOADING\FreeFlight\LOADING_FREEFLIGHT.jpg

I assumed my issue was that I can’t find that first one.

I’m not on Steam but on Store, so in that case someone else has to give you some help. Sorry for that!

I’m not on steam either. I’ve got the store version. Those links 1, 2 and 3 were just cut and paste from someones example and they said store would be similar. 3 different images. I’ve not found one called onboarding.jpg. I’ve changed the other two and still get the startup default background.

I changed almost all the photos in game for customization, took less than a minute to locate the files. Just search loading under whatever drive FS2020 was installed, and literally just drag and drop with files of the SAME TYPE AND SAME NAME. Extremely important.

Thanks but I just can’t find the image which comes up when it first starts, where it says checking for updates and above that “set your experience”. Makes me think it’s hidden somehow or downloaded every time. I can find all the rest but not the start up first background image you get.

You don’t have this directory?
I can see all the boot pictures in there

D:\FS2020\Official\OneStore\fs-base\missions\Common\LOADING\BOOT

Thanks for asking the question, I’d been looking for these, too.

Yeah I can see those and have changed some but I can’t seem to replace the very first background image which is currently of Paris I think. One of the images I switched even may have been the same as the one I want to replace, but nothing I’ve done has put a custom image behind the bit where it says checking for updates.

Double check your locations: the AppData-folder will be something like 130 MB, the Store-folder must be around 117 GB, depending on how much content you installed.
It’s the Store-folder you have to dive in to.

Thanks but I only seem to have two locations, one in my user folder and the main area. The main install is down “wpsystem” and is as you say over 100GB. Have you successfully changed the first background image?

No, I never intended to because it remembers me off the world updates. I only changed the loading screen of the flights
