ChasePlane for MSFS... It's happening! [by Parallel 42]

Thx. That worked. Not sure why, as it should auto update, but maybe I was on a wrong branch.

The spotting feature is really fantastic!

yes very good update. And dont forget the “companion” remote control on a tablet or other computer on the same network (localhost;8651). I am on vers. 2026.32.3.15

I really have no clue where to find it… It would have been so easy to put it in the UI where all the rest is but maybe I’m to simple.

I see now that I’m still on 32.1.18 after 3x downloading from the P42 website…

This gradual release was also mentioned in the blog post about this update.

Loving the new spotting feature but it seems that the in game sound is linked to your own aircraft so if you’re following a plane that’s miles away it’s deadly silent. Have I got that right?

Sure, that’s why I got an email with the title 'Update available for ChasePlane" but ok. #smh

This is really one of my favorite updates. The spotting feature and remote/browser access are just great.

Two small issues I hope they fix:

  1. Not sure how the auto-spot feature is suppose to work. Seems like it selects the spotting view kind of randomly.

  2. Really hope Asobo fixes the issue with the camera going below the ground. Right now, when auto selecting a view, the camera often drops below the ground. Makes it kind of usuable.

Those 2 are related to the same issue with Asobo’s camera system. We hope they can provide a fix in upcoming betas or in SU7.

There was indeed a new installer posted 23h ago for everyone, we’re still at 10% of users for the Spotting update though.

Choose in the installer NOT the latest version, but open the other versions and then choose the newer one. See pic

Do we have an idea if CP will support officially VR and if yes, when?

Officially, I don’t know. But I use it with FSRealistic+ without any problem in VR.

Yes I know it is working unofficially now. But I refrain myself to buy a product that is not so cheap on which the page indicates that you will hit issue in VR unless at your own risk… And may be the product is working from now and tomorrow it will not anymore.

That’s why my question was more about the official support, so that I can be ensured the VR will be kept working.

I was waiting for someone to figure this one out

The biggest problem for me in VR is that when opening the toolbar it literally freezes the sim for 30 seconds or so. It’s very jarring in VR. Subsequent openings and closings work fine though. It’s very bizarre and if you don’t know you’ll think you end up CTDing. Same thing happens too with fsrealistic plus I guess it also triggers something in chaseplane.

Anyone got the same? Opening in 2d mode seems fine and no such issues. I was thinking maybe it tries to enumerate controllers or something and when in vr it sees the motion controllers but can’t quite make sense of it and something times out. Just speculating though.

I think the logical thing is for it to be the opposite.
That it doesn’t work now, or works worse, and that soon, once Asobo improves the SDK, incorporates new options, and fixes the remaining bugs, everything will work much better.

But it seems logical and very honest of the developer to add the note that certain functionalities don’t work perfectly at the moment.
This allows users to have all the information and be able to make a decision about whether to buy the product or not.

What bothers me most is the stuttering that occurs when opening the addon window. P42 might be able to optimize it somewhat with some kind of workaround, but the problem stems from an unresolved bug in Asobo’s window opening process. It affects the ATC and others, and there’s a thread where it’s been reported for some time.

There’s also the issue of the camera clipping through the floor. This is also an Asobo problem, reported for a while, and hopefully it will be fixed in SU6 or SU7, as mentioned before.

Not a ChasePlane issue per-se, but worse for me with it than before it, because ChasePlane presumably uses the Showcase camera API for all the world views: has anyone else had the issue where, when you move the camera a long distance from your aircraft when it’s on the ground, your aircraft model moves laterally, sometimes vertically, sometimes the attitude changes, so that when you return to your cockpit you’re somewhere else, or suddenly at 0kts in mid-air and immediately crash?

Or one that I have had with ChasePlane but never with the sim camera system where, when in the air and you move the world camera a distance from your aircraft, you suddenly teleport to 0N 0W?

I’m assuming these are on Asobo to fix, but this has been happening for me since the 2020 days and since I switched to ChasePlane I see it more often since I spend more time in exterior views.

I’ve used Chaseplane in FS20 and FS24 and never had the problems you describe. It’s very strange. (I even had it in P3D, but those were different times… )

Yes, it’s weird, but I can definitely reproduce it (in multiplayer scenarios, at least), and I’ve seen other players aircraft doing the same thing and verified that they were using the drone at the time.

This is because the ground will unload gradually as you move the camera farther away. That’s why you should be using the World camera as it was designed to explore the world and doesn’t suffer the same issue. This is a sim mechanic not controlled by ChasePlane.

We went pretty far trying to optimize this in the Spotting update. There are a lot of little optimizations like this that make life easier but we are ultimately limited by what the sim gives us. That’s why we’ve built the companion app that you can use in the browser or on a separate device. It makes things a lot better.
