My flight plan called for FL430 cruise. As the CJ4 climbed on autopilot it kept losing speed and eventually stalled. The throttle was at 100% and the autopilot had the trim set at +56%. How can I get the CJ4 to the assigned cruise altitude?
When this happens, what is the vertical speed?
What climb mode were you using?
I believe the correct climb profile is throttle in CLB, FLC engaged and climb speed set to 240kts. It will transition to 0.62 Mach at higher altitude, and should do that automatically, so you should not need to adjust your FLC speed setting.
I had enabled FLC and set it for the climb speed that was calculated in the PERF settings. I think it was 174. However, as the plane climbed and the air got thinner, the speed and the rate of climb kept dropping until the stall speed was reached. Throttles were at full. Do I need to burn off fuel at a lower altitude before trying to climb to cruise? Thank you for the replies.
You may be confusing V2 speed or safe single engine speeds with climb speed. You definitely do not want to climb to altitude at 174 kts. There is a menu in the FMS that shows climb speed as 240/.62 and you should follow that.
Clarification, 240/.64 climb profile. Check out the “Manual” section on the forum and there is a comprehensive guide for the CJ4.
I’m guessing you’re looking at the TAKEOFF page for your numbers? You need to check the VNAV climb page.
BigCow74 is spot on,
The CJ4 climbs at 240/.64 in FLC.
Thank you for the help. I was still trying to fly like I was using the WT mod (which was fine the last time I flew this plane) instead of the changes put in place with the Asobo version now in the sim.
