Hello Stearmandriver2, we already know each other from other discussion rounds - and I understand your approach - but like I said - accuracy does not go hand in hand with the visual presentation of the forecast and the visual representation “suffers” from the representation of METAR.
These are 2 different pairs of shoes and of course it would be best if both went together !!
Some don’t care as long as it looks like something like “overcast” or “scattered”, looks pretty much like what METAR says and they are happy and some want to see what we’ve seen before because it’s more “visually” realistic and you have to understand that too, especially if there are already METAR tools like REX or UnrealWeatherMod.
Imagine, because a few people have complained about the photogrammetry, Asobo comes here and turns it off completely (without the option) and the scenery streaming because it’s too much in terms of performance or has problems. And then I come and say “well, I don’t need that anyway, I’m flying high up there anyway, I don’t care about the scenery”, that wouldn’t be nice. I already had exact “METAR” weather with XPlane and P3D with tools and I came to MSFS because of other things, of course, because I was “convinced” by the weather and visually impressed - so now I have the same thing here, only nicer, of course because of the “next-gen” engine. The weather features video also presented something completely different than what we have now. The whole thing isn’t the end of the world and that’s not supposed to be a weather fetishism, but I liked what I saw before better, even if it was “inaccurate”.
No one should feel offended by this - but people have their opinions. I see 2 camps here (METAR and Forecast) and personally I would prefer it if both would fit together. And it must and it will NEVER look 1:1 like outside IRL, that’s clear anyway, but I would have liked to have had the option. And if they’re on that path, well then it’s fine anyway, it’s just not easy to get there like that, well, like I said, I’m excited!
