Cockpit decal text / textures disappearing [SU4 / 1.6.18.0]

Yes its still present in final build, I can easily test for the issue outside of VR by loading into the default 787 Dreamliner and simply roll the mouse wheel to see text disappear from the cockit buttons.

Its something to do with the field of view and how it interacts with decals. VR just amplifies the issue because of its higher field of view display but its not exclusively an issue to VR.

I can confirm this is happening for me, I only just now found this post.

I mostly fly with Black Square Bonanza and it’s very annoying the green LED indicators of the radio go ā€œoffā€ when in more distance.
Is there any info if this is going to be fixed?

It’s happening for me too in a bunch of aircraft. I think mostly 2020 modules which are ā€œcompatibleā€ with 2024.

I have the same problem… nobody find a fix? Thanks!

It seems to depend on FOV as well. It’s worse in the Crystal Super 50 ppd than it ever was in the quest 3.

Oooh! Glad I found this. Was just flying the L-1011 in VR, and noticed that the G/S needle on the HSI and DG were not there. . .until I leaned forward. I also saw this on some of the controls in the FSS 727, and assumed it was just the way the 3rd party devs built their LODs. Seems something deeper in the guts of the sim itself? I’m not in the beta, but this is a little frustrating. I’ll have to check some more planes.

pimax crystal super user here.

this detail culling in vr is just awful. probably uses more resources to cull/not to cull in the vc than just leaving things alone.

back in the old days when aggressive mipmaps were used in the vc, one could at least read the blurry keys on the mcdu, now it’s either there or just blank…

su5 hasn’t fixed it, who knows when su6 comes out and whether Asobo fixes this.

SU5 default C208 Caravan now has buttons popping in and out with head movement, this was never an issue for me in prior versions.

Example; the HDG button goes blank so I can’t see it greyed out or lit up.

Another regression brought about by a change that is untested, disappointed this issue is actually is getting worse before it gets fixed.

Is this thread effectively a duplicate of the below? Maybe we can merge & combine votes…

For the little testing I’ve done with 2024 I have seen vanishing decals and lights, which doesn’t happen in 2020. The wide view angle in VR surely makes it worse - same as the OLOD for static aircraft which often show no landing gear if more than 50ft away in VR…

Seems to be the same problem. Talked about this with Just Flight in their Forum. Asobo knows of this behaviour, third-party devs are talking about this. There is nothing they can do to change this. They have to wait for Asobo to change it. It’s a bit of a shame.

This is still a major issue, in SU5 as released. It’s much worse than ever before and seems to affect almost every aircraft cockpit when in VR. LOD settings have no effect, it appears to be part of the culling process. Is anyone from Asobo going to confirm this will be fixed?

Can confirm this issue.
Just very annoying.
For example : switched off my autopilot at a very bad moment because of this, cannot see heading bug in BS Caravan Pro until I lean in, …

I hate to say it, but I think that 3rd party devs must have some semblance of control over this, as the PMDG 737s don’t have this issue as badly. The LSK lines on the captain’s CDU show up fine, but the FO’s don’t unless leaning in a bit. Which is ā€œfineā€ in a sense that the responsible systems are visible. From what I recall, the Fenix 'buses, PMDG777 and TFDi MD-11 are all in similar boats. But the L-1011 and FSS 727 still have shrunken LOD boxes in VR such that important things disappear when sitting at the Design Eye Point and simply looking at those systems. (The worst was the G/S and LOC indicators on the L-1011 attitude indicator, which are pretty important to see in a critical flight phase.) I’ll have to check if it was improved in 1.0.6. But for all the stock planes, they should all be pristine and highest level of functionality. So I’d hope Asobo/Microsoft address this soon.
