What is happening from the software writers to address the multiple crashes dozens of people are having after update 9. Many people have spent a lot of money on computers and graphic cards to use flight sim 2020 as a simulator, NOT to play games.
As an ex pilot I found the sim was excellent and accurate in VR (I found just using a monitor uninspiring).
Now with crashes after seconds every time I can find no realistic explanation on line or elsewhere.
I spent most of a day re-installing my ten disc set and the update on a new 1 terabyte ssd. I have done multiple ram and drive tests and my computer seems fully functioning.
VR was perfect up to update 9, now it wonāt even run in 2d for more than 10 seconds.
Most commonly displaying an error window with a call to an unobtainable memory address.
Any ideas would be gratefully received especially from Asobo? to help people who have spent £2000 expressly to run Flight Sim in VR as a basic simulator.
Was it working just fine without crashing before Sim Update 9?
I think there is a general misconception that spending thousands on hardware will sone how magically make things better. Its a complete misnomer.
Yes there are some bugs, and yes, there are some sets of circumstance that cause CTDās, but in the great scheme of things its a relatively low percentage. Some of these are issues with the Sim. Some are where the SDK has changed and the developer needs to update their package, some are developer coding / knowledge gaps and some are system configuration issues on the end users equipment.
Clearly, after 9 technical updates, the architecture of this software is in a pretty fragile state. Getting this to work for everyone across 2 platforms is proving an uphill struggle. I wonder at what point MS will stop ploughing money into both and perhaps concentrate on a single platform? - theoretically thinking aloud!
Thanks for replies.
Obviously the sim is a masterpiece, that is not disputed.
On the other hand Iām not the only one I know and many more on the web with the problems.
Surely it is incumbent on the manufacturer to at least immediately say it is treating the problem as urgent.
The sim worked fine till upgrade nine, now it is useless to me and a lot of other people.
Whenever I face a problem with no real solution or cause I just do a clean install of windows and it usually does it for me. Maybe some registry errors, maybe something else - reinstall will fix it. Itās not the best option, but an option to consider nevertheless.
MSAsobo is responding, at least somewhat urgently, with the upcoming hotfix. But Iām guessing that some of the many people who have posted that MSFS has been working great since SU9 are nervous that this āhotfixā will make things bad for them. Iām curious what they should do if thatās the case⦠should they also demand a hotfix? (Rhetorical question not aimed at the OP).
I found that my RealSimGear equipment was causing CTDs.
Every time.
If you have any of those, unplug them, shut the RealSimGear program down⦠and I mean completely, using the Windows Task Manager⦠then restart MSFS. once the sim is up and running, you can plug them back in. You might have to select āconnectā in the RealSimGear pop up.
Pro-tip, Iāve put my 3 components on a USB hub so I only have one cord (the hub) to unplug/plug each time.
Any numbers to back this up? Cause in the great scheme of things I would suspect MSFS is unstable and the percentage is relatively high.
Given that they donāt publish numbers itās difficult to gauge, but from looking at these forums, much less in the way of people reporting issues than there was in December when everyone was going ![]()

Seriously though. The number of posts here about issues with SU9 is what, less than 100?
The install base is rumoured to be over 500000 (admittedly half of that is probably Xbox)
Thatās not exactly crisis point is it?
One thread about this memory error.
It was also perfect on pancake prior to SU9. SU9 brought a fair amount of troubleshooting and relearning to my PC skills! Not entirely fixed, now my main issue is the connection lost bug.
The connection lost bugā¦.
Now that is interesting. I thought it was the South East Asia server Iām always connecting to. That recently began to give me this problem indeed.
Other than that I have found SU9 pretty good compared to recent other releases though. Yes a couple things of the obvious that were introduced with SU5 and above or still not resolved yet but I found SU9 pretty good compared.
Running on an RTX390 with 64GB 3600CL14 and 5950x on a G2 I run between 38 and 55FPS depending on the area, loving it.
I had 1 CTD and one time the sim didnāt even started. By disabling the A320 in the Add-On linker the problem was solved.
I have the feeling the majority of problems are caused by what ever extra add-ons you put into your community folder. Always after a sim update, make sure nothing is in your community folder and delete and recreate the rolling cache. Then gradually start adding your add-ons again. I know, it is a pain to do so but trust me, it eliminates a lot of headache and most of all, frustration
Have you got any numbers to back this up?

" I WOULD SUSPECT "
Has anyone else noticed that since update 9 the quality of the entire image has dropped?
Just finished a practice flight and everything looked ādullā and less sharpe than it normally does.
My problem is that the sim was one of the most stable games Iāve ever run on my PCās until SU8. Since then crashes have become regular and since SU9 I havenāt been able to complete a single flight in VR. Every time I get an error pointint towards my memory (RAM). Itās somewhat okay in 2D and the memory sticks are fine, I ran stress tests. The only thing that has changed on my PC beside a windows update was the sim itself. So the problem is quite obvious to me. Itās frustrating as I have never had any problems but if it goes so wrong there has happened something in the background.
have you done any overclocking of your gpu/cpu/ram?
If you have, i suggest setting all oc settings to default and check results.
If you havenāt. Try a few things.
- Clear rolling cache if for some reason youāre using it.
- If you have any mods in your community folder, i suggest running the sim without any.
- Also, check your gpu/cpu temperatures under full load, overheating is always a possibility.
- Last but not least, if youāre using an nvidia card, try installing studio drivers instead of game ready.
So, no then.
After update 9 VR flying impossible, FPS about 5-20, stuttering and crashing. Waiting for hotfix or other instructions⦠![]()
