Coming on xbox? What do you think?

So it has been said this is coming on xbox. I dont know how. I could not imagine using a xbox controller on this. The main thing is performance. People who have high end hardware are having issues, so how well will it do on the xbox? Now I’m not anti console. I dont want to start a war of console vs pc. Im just genuinely curious how this will perform on the xbox. I love my warthog hotas. I could not go back to something less. Controller would seem awkward.

I would think the visuals would be toned down alot on the xbox. However if the console people get into the sim and enjoy it, bring more people into the hobby, that would be good for us. I dont think people on the xbox would go out and build or buy a pc because of this after trying it on the xbox.

What do you guys think? How do you think it would perform and do you think this is good for our hobby? Or maybe it will be terrible on the console and that crowd will flame the sim? My opinion is that i dont think it will do well or be popular on that platform.

I think XBox can use more than just the XBox controller though. I saw people use racing wheels, etc., so I get joysticks, yokes, rudder pedals, etc. will work too.

There’s lots of people on the forums that have no idea how to set their PC up and configure MSFS to fly nice on it, so those kinds of people might be better off with XBox that’s all set and tuned. :small_airplane: :smiley_cat:

next gen consoles will have AMD’s RDNA2 technology, and are supposed to be graphically pretty strong. They’re probably selling those consoles at a pretty steep loss, and will make up the difference on the games sales (no steam summer and black friday sales on consoles).

Not sure if they’ll try to release it for the previous gen as well, but those are sure to take a heavy hit on the graphics settings.

Hardware aside, I think you still have the fundamental problem that your typical entitled XBoxer will demand instant gratification, and will be unwilling or unable to put the effort into learning that proper aviation isn’t just another mindless video game.

Trying to appeal to both gamers and simmers is a bold move, and faces some challenges.

I agree. If it works then great. Im all for bringing more people into this hobby. I have a feeling there will be a lot of negativity from the console side. Look at all the complaints this sim is getting already, granted bugs are annoying and need to be fixed. I think its going to be worse on the other platform.

I’d like the PC version to be stabilised first before they start working on the xbox version

I think that is their plan. I agree with you.

I guess the port from the PC version to the Xbox is done by an separate team, and probably Asobo will benefit from it since for a console you really try to optimize the game for the specific hardware and not just say “well upgrade your PC”. During the last developer Q&A, the Asobo CEO said something similar and gave an example.

So in terms of performance and controls I’m not worried at all, at least for the Xbox Series X. What worries me is the distance to TV, where some of the cockpit instruments are not readable so I think we need some “smart” controller shortcuts or the support of an keyboard.

What do I think. The PC users, I mean we, are the beta testers for the ‘FS2020 on Xbox’ release with a ‘Xbox SeriesX launch’ deadline.

As already said by other poster, the sim should work well on the new series X but getting users of older models to understand that they will have to turn down the settings (and not complain about poor performance on this forum) will be a challenge, for Asobo and forum members.

to be honest, I think graphics settings options should be removed for the consoles.

MS/Asobo knows exactly what hardware each and every XBox X/S/1 has, and how they’ll perform. So the user doesn’t need to change settings.

Sounds like a good solution. I suppose they can code the app to automatically detect the hardware platform after download (and then disable and grey-out all the relevant settings). That way the owners of older Xboxes can see what they are missing – and be enticed into buying the new Series X.

I have an i7 9700k, 32gb ram and 980ti, I can play at High settings at 1440p locked 30fps.

The new consoles are more powerful than the system I have, so I have no doubt the new Xbox can run this comfortably, plus as it a closed system, they will be able to optimise it to run great.

We see countless times when games get ported from console to PC how it doesn’t run well sometimes, as you have so many different configurations, so when it comes to Xbox, I expect performance to be beyond what I can personally get on my setup.

It might not run ultra, but it will look amazing still, especially when played on your TV.

I also play with my PS4 controller, so I don’t see any issues playing the game with that, I do think you will need mouse support however, as changing heading on autopilot etc, will be difficult with just a pad.

I would not think there would be graphic settings for this on the xbox? Would there? Is that a thing? I thought consoles only had a choice of output like 1080 or hdr. So my video card died. Putting in my spare which is a msi 2070 standard. Old card was a 2080 ti. Yes im sad. Don’t ask how it died. I would like to get the 3080 next year but I dont like nvidia shenanigans with this release. I might switch over to the next amd gpu. They did say there will be plenty of availability. We will see. Xbox and ps5 sold out. 30 series sold out. I was planing on a gpu upgrade next year anyway, not because of msfs 2020. Now that im downgrading I will see how it performs. If I get close results compared to my 2080 then that would be promising. I would then know its on the software side of the sim.

Exactly the same here. I’ve been simming since FS95 on PC but as of today I have less spare time, ended up refraining of it some years after fsx launch. Today, the console would be the more practical solution for me since there’s no down time tweaking, selecting drivers, workarounds and such. Microsoft already stated that pheripericals will be compatible with it and probably the major addons will be available through the store inside the game so I’ll be pretty happy with this.

The only thing that concerns me right now is that it doesn’t have a schedule, so it might happen by the end of this year or the next, who knows.

Honeycomb just announced a joystick and throttle for next-gen consoles. Regarding hardware, even I’m curious how it’ll work on the 2015 Xbox One. I’m hoping they’ll make it at least Xbox One X enhanced, but that’s up to them. In order for the sim to work on console they’d have to optimize it well. I just want to go back to my old hobby, I used to play FSX on a PC until it couldn’t even handle it anymore. I don’t really afford a PC at the moment but I should be getting one in 2021. I’m having a dilemma because of the graphical possibilities on the Xbox Series X, which is relatively cheap for a guaranteed 4K 60fps, meanwhile PC you’d have to pay over a thousand for the same performance.
High hopes for a good console port then.

I dont really see the xbox series x being able to play true 4k at 60fps. How can a $500 console perform as good as a rtx 2080 or a rtx 3070/3080? This is not a dig against you. This is about hardware and what it can do.

I use a 1440 monitor at 144hz refresh rate. I used ton use a 4k monitor a few years ago. Was a flst screen. Switched to 1440 curved monitor and I love it. I really can’t tell a difference between 1440p and 4k while gaming.

I’m using a rtx 2080 with a i7 10700k. It is very smooth. The fps should be higher than what I’m getting, but that is due to the game not fully optimized yet.

In order for this sim to be 4k at 60fps on the xbox, something needs to be cut down. I think that is how it would be optimized, but reducing graphic fidelity

Sony and Microsoft make claims about what their consoles can do, weather its the ps4, ps5, xbox one or xbox series x. In reality lot of those claims are not realized with the retail version of the console.

I used to have ps3, ps4, xbox one x. All of them were great consoles, but I have always been a pc guy. However what Microsoft is doing with their game pass is fantastic. Game pass ultimate is a great value and cheap. I have it. So my son can play whatever game he wants on the xbox and I can play on my pc.

As far as consoles go, this whole fan boy ps vs xbox is stupid. I want all consoles to succeed. I want all games to be a success on whatever platform a person is using. I prefer the pc, I love the pc, but I dont think of myself as part of the pc master race. I have nothing against consoles. I prefer pc for my own reasons.

What Microsoft is doing with game pass is fantastic. I wish Sony would get rid of their exclusive titles and make them available on all platforms. I would love to replay the last of us, and all the uncharted titles. However I will not go a buy a console for one game or a game series.

This reply really took a turn from the original post. I do hope flight simulator works and looks fantastic on the xbox. I really do. I just don’t think it will perform or look as good as it does on the pc. But if it has anhigh fps and yhe graphics are toned down a little bit, then great. Because I dont think having a slightly lesser visual experience will impact the entertainment a person gets from the sim on the console version. This is about fun and enjoyment and I hope it does qell

Was that English, or drivel?

Really? No need to be insulting.
